Yes I know. He did not play for a Malzahn offense

JJs arm is plenty strong he just likes to throw into double / triple coverage.

You don't think Jeremy Johnson has a strong arm?

Honestly, he never once showed proper zip/strength on deep passes last year definitely not like 13 or 14. That level of mental breakdown isn't Gus' system anyways as he clearly was capable at some point (70+% 11+ YPA)

A dual threat that doesn't have arm strength isn't much of an upgrade from a pocker passer, if any. There is a reason a guy like Jonathan Wallace wasn't even considered as QB

JJ consistently underthrew balls last year. It was teh weirdest thing about his collapse. Even when throwing into triple coverage, it was short more than it should have been with his perceived arm

I think he just held the ball so long sometimes instead of throwing it on time that the receivers had a lot of time to get down field. Even the strongest of QB's under throw when they hold the ball for 8-9 seconds.

I don't think it's ability with JJ. Kid has all of the talent in the world. That is why he was so highly regarded nationally before last season. JJ's problems are between his ears.

He is too immature and emotional to play Qb in the SEC imo

Then you have to question whether or not he knows how to recruit the right pocket passers if they aren't any good to start with.
didn't realize gus recruited Todd, trotter, or dick

learn something new everyday

Eta: also didn't realize JJ committed to gus

Weird that it says he committed may of 2012 on all those cruitin pages

5* WR Tyjon Lindsey visit this month

He was kid awhile back that put AU in his top group after we offered even though he had never visited. Probably a longshot as this has been a Nebraska/Ohio State battle so far but always good to get a visit

Also The Opening started today. Good chance AU picks up 2 commitments from 3* TE Tre McKitty & 4* OG Nick Brahms sometime this week. KN hasn't ruled out KJ Britt pulling the trigger either.

Also not sure if it was posted earlier (stopped reading due to the shitfest) but Tray Bishop is committing at end of the month. AU sitting pretty well now that we are pushing the QB position. It's mainly an AU/UGA battle with UF running 3rd.

Pretty sure this was mentioned earlier too but 4* CB Tre Shaw will commit this month as well. Chance AU adds at least 4 commitments this month with possibility of a guy like Britt or Ignont pulling a trigger as well

It is weird that he recruited Clint, Queen and White though considering the arm strength issues.

I can understand Queen pre injury but until Woody, Gus doesn't seem to make arm strength a prerequisite despite the value to his system.

Clemson making a major push for him.

clint wasn't the only qb that was in that class. and i don't remember anyone complaining about taking him as a backup qb. hindsight is nice, but i don't think anyone thought at the time that newton would be a one & done and rollison wouldn't be able to pull his head out of his arse. not to mention gus had one entire month to recruit at auburn before nsd.

then why list him?

Kipp Adams about Queen: "one of the strongest arms in the southeast"
Woody Wommack: "It is obvious why he is highly regarded with his size and arm strength"

so gus didn't recruit nick marshall then?

does your whole argument fall on sean white?

Because we didn't add a second QB despite knowing for 10+ months that Tyler Queen had a major shoulder injury.

The guy we tried to rope in was Deondre Francois who just had an average arm

2014 we get Sean White
2015 we get clearly injured Tyler Queen
2016 we get Woody + weak arm JF3
2017 we target Tray Bishop

So in Gus' first 4 full classes, 4/5 QBs we are looking to bring in don't have big arms or have injured arms

One of the guys that, honestly, I feel kind of threw off our QB situation for a while was losing Tyrik Rollison. Even though the dude never amounted to much, I've always felt that if he'd have made it into Auburn his life would've been a lot different and he could've done well at AU.

Keith thinks Tre' McKitty could be in for a ratings bump if he performs well this week. He didn't get much opportunity last season sitting behind 5* TE Isaac Nauta

That did mess things up combined with Frazier expected to at least not be the original JJ

I just am surprised that our QB recruiting isn't solely focused on big arm talent guys.

elbow injury

again hindsight is nice, but apparently Dr Andrews (not sure if you've ever heard of him) didn't think surgery was necessary when he injured it

Deondre Francois who just had an average arm
weird, 247 gives him an 8 on arm strength
quote:

weak arm JF3
i don't remember reading anything saying he has a weak arm. link?

this scouting report seems to think differently

quote:

It’s hard to tell, as this video shows him playing in garbage time against tired defenses blitzing almost 100% of the time. But, he has the arm strength that we saw from Nick Marshall. There is no place on the field where Franklin can’t deliver the ball. All things considered, his mechanics are better than Marshall’s at this point in his development, and the improvements that need to be made are easier to correct.

We gonna lose Tre Shaw to Clemson? That would blow, we really need him and/or Terrell.
