I really have zero interest in doing so right now.

But is that because of the board, or the fact that the current state of the program gives us fewer fun things to discuss? Serious question.

I do think the melt threads are a welcome improvement, as long as the melt is contained to those threads the whole place is better. I personally dislike any Ag-on-Ag violence around here. We all agree to not troll on the Ark almost unanimously so the differences between posts are differences in opinion. I hate to see people talk bad about each other over opinion, that could make me reach for the mod shotgun I will admit.

But I don't think everything outside of that is a-ok for sure. You made the thread for a reason tmc. And I know where you are coming from. I mean, not with football as I am one of the melters when it comes to football. But I am scared to even TALK about basketball on here because 99% of the time I am a pumper (I literally shake my head up and down IRL when Pat posts), and some people hate sunshine pumping about the basketball program even though the last 15 years it have overachieved given our commitment and resources for the sport. I bet you feel the same way posting something positive about A&M football.

I am open to whatever everyone wants, but I feel we are too scared to embrace change because of some sliding slope fallacy that this place will turn into Texags if we moderate a little more. There is a middle ground if that is what is needed. We are a pretty sophisticated group so I think some common sense concepts (melt only in a melt thread, don't create new threads on a topic that has a thread, don't attack other Aggies, etc.) could go a long way.

First, this thread is not about me and how I feel. This is about board moderation and I'd prefer to stick to that topic but since what you are responding to is more about me as a poster, I will address in that regard

no, it's entirely because of the state of the board. I've twice now started and then decided against a new topic I'd like to discuss but it would be impossible imo given the current climate because it would be derailed in seconds. I'll save it til March or something

I don't mind the melt threads at all. Honestly they are needed. People need to vent. I just don't bother reading them because I have no interest in just hearing people bitch. That's the option I have.

The issue I'm bringing up is that people won't stick to them. They desperately want to be heard and since no one is posting in their threads, they take their agenda on the road and overrun other topics. To a degree, I understand. It's a message board, they want to vent and so they go where the discussion is happening.

But I think that discourages discourse overall and I say that because it discourages me personally from reading or posting. But I also find people that won't let me change the subject to be excessively boring.

I've got a cousin that works for the IRS. Somehow every Xmas he corners me and I spend an hour hearing about tax code. One year I'm gonna ice pick him in the back of the skull

I'm not particularly positive about the current state of our football program. But I'm not the type to vent outwardly really ever so you won't see me posting such. I actually agree with the "melters" about a few things more than you might realize.

What I started this thread was not about that. I suppose I didn't do a good job phrasing it. My question in essence: certain posters have just posted the exact same things in just about every thread, regardless of topic. As mods, should we do something about that when it happens or just let it be?

I think the red herring grrrTexagsggrrrr is pretty ironic as most of the things I'm pointing out are exactly the issues I have with Texags. But so far it seems the consensus is for no change, other than doing a better job anchoring dup topics

Hate to say this, but a structure like the one at shaggyvevo would be nice. Not the moderation on what can and cannot be said, but how they keep all of their stuff to one thread. Those frickers have managed to keep their A&M obsession for over 4 years now (and counting) in one single thread. That's pretty damn impressive.
