What I'm saying is that it's not unreasonable to think that a coach with only a decade of experience probably doesn't have very many connections. Just because he golfs with Spurrier once or twice a year doesn't mean that's a connection. Besides maybe Hugh Freeze or Todd Graham, I can't think of many he'd have. In the long run, it's really not worth arguing over with you though, bud. I'm not sure why you seem so mad and argumentative all the time.

You do realize coaches can have relationships even if they didn't actually coach for the same university don't you? They attend camps, events and programs all the time together. That annual coaching convention is like a goddamn Comicon event with people dressing as groupies and handing out resumes. They get to know each other and make relationships

This

There is a ton of networking and coaches making lists. Also, other HC's calling on behalf of their up and coming guys. However, that list gets small for coordinator spots especially for an SEC program. The point you are making is correct in that Gus has more resources than just Hugh Freeze.

The "Gus doesn't have connections" statement is the dumbest conjecture our board is riddled with at the current moment.

I think it was a mistake not promoting TRob. He has a better resume than Allen, LT, etc. he would have been here 3-4 years, and we keep the same scheme.

I just read Phillip Marshall's DC Update.

**He said Chad Kelly turned us down
(obviously).

**There were serious discussions between Auburn and Penn State DC Bob Shop but in the end he stayed.

**Mutual interest between Malzahn and Todd Grantham

**Rumblings that Paul Rhodes could be a person of interest, but nothing more than talk right now.

**On USF DC Tom Allen...Many thought he would be named DC soon after USFs game. The fact that didn't happen and still hasn't is likely telling that Gus hasn't made a decision or is going in another direction.

**Gus wants to name a DC by January 8th.

**If Tom Allen isn't named DC soon then tune into the Louisville / Texas A&M game Wednesday and watch Grantham

I would have liked the promotion but I still think he would have followed Muschamp to be his DC.

Why didn't we just offer T Rob the position? This is getting ridiculous. Definitely now that Grantham is on our short list!

Much like our offense stalled out inside the five this year, it feels as if our coordinator search has done the same. At this point we will probably settle for a field goal type hire.

Might as well just promote Lance. If he does a good job in the bowl game just let him have it. Grantham looks like a terrible hire. Theres not many options out there now not sure what Gus is gonna do.

I disagree. I can actually see Gus passing on Allen once he got a chance to interview. His resume is very underwhelming. I would be impressed if he passed on him.

I was thinking about that the other day. At this point wait until the bowl game where we will face a solid offense led by a first round quarterback and see how our interim does that is a monster recruiter with connections. If Lance puts together a nice gameplan and gets the players on board to play hard then give him a shot. I don't see him moving on within 5 years as another DC unless he is let go so it should also give us continuity on defense which is one of the biggest things we need.

I know he was in Auburn this week. I have to think that if we have not heard anything yet, it won't be Allen.

Of course, I was wrong that one time...at band camp.

Grantham would have to take a significant pay cut to come here... No way we'd pay the seven figures he's making now at UL.

I would have thought we would have heard if it is Allen, but with this week being Christmas perhaps Gus wants to wait to announce.
