Because McGarity is pissed at Pruitt and wants him gone. Likely he made it part of the offer.
Why wouldn't McGarity fire his arse already if there was some big problem?

What if Pruitt goes to Bama and Muschamp goes to USCe. We are down to our 3rd choice already. Who is that and how will that affect recruiting. I fear our only strength from this year is being cast aside.

Smart is equally and probably more qualified than Pruitt is running a defense. I am not remotely worried about how the defense will perform. I don't understand why people are losing their mind over this. Of course I want Pruitt to stay but it is the least of our staff concerns in my opinion.

McGarity want Pruitt gone. Smart's first choice was to keep him. It is past time to fire McGarity.

Because the folks that write the big checks like the new defense. McGarity has been getting heat from them for 3 years now. That's why there have finally been some improvements started and why he canned Richt, to please them. But if he can "suggest" to the new HC that he clean house then he can have him get rid of Pruitt and cover his arse.

Letting Pruitt leave to go to AL is a huge strategic blunder if nothing else. We have a chance for damn near checkmate - and then we don't take the move because he isn't liked?
