quote:Looks to like Chavis doesn't help the offense score points. Especially in yalls case, so great Aggy logic.
This might have been their year if they could have maintained their defensive dominance from the pre-Steele era

Well no. He is a defensive coach.

Well he's a defensive coordinator, so I'm not sure how or why he would be required to help the offense score points

Better on defense, especially third down defense?

Those wins and losses though.

Much better on defense, aka the side he coaches.
In the 49 states where people don't believe in Voodoo no one is going to jump to your conclusion that a defensive coach has an effect on the offense.

Right, the offense sucks. We know. He is not responsible for the offense, not sure if you missed that. If you did I guess I understand why you were frustrated with him during his tenure in Baton Rouge

We will probably end up with fewer losses than last year.

Then why did one of your super smart Aggy brethren post the following?

Unless Chavis someone affects our offensive line, it doesn't make any sense.

5th to 50th in passing defense
even after the 200+ rushing yards Bama put on LSU.. they've improved from giving up 153 yds rushing in 2014 to 113 yds rushing in 2015
The biggest issue is that teams rape us in the redzone this season. I think it's obvious that Steele is a small step back from Chavis. The Steele defense is better at creating pressure (more TFL, Sacks) and better at stopping the run. It gives up more points and big plays.
Overall the 2015 defense is only giving up 14 yards more per game than the 2014 defense.

Chavis single handedly wrecked your offense
Wonder why they aren't going for long passes or kill shots? Wondering why the offense seems to go slow and stay on the field?
Chavis wants them to hold onto the ball and dominate TOP. Chavis is now being heralded as a savior and the best coach while Sumlin and Spav take the fall.
It's not like Sumlin and Spavital forgot how to coach in one year.
Miles and Chavis fed off of each other. They both had the ball control mentality that Chavis found so appealing about Miles when he was kicked out of Tennessee in 2008. In fact, in 2008, Miles tried to revolutionize his offense and it ended up destroying his defense in the process by turning the ball over and not dominating TOP.
He canned that OC and has called his offense ever since.
Now Sumlin and Spav are trying to appease Chavis by draining the clock in an air raid system.

Maybe your offense got better because one of the highest paid offensive staffs in the country are coaching up your talent?
That is what I would hope as a LSU fan.

Third and Steele?
Steele is making $800k a year less than what we would have paid Chavis if he stayed.
For the money, we're getting about what we paid for. And it's only a 2 year contract so it's not like we are that committed.
It's hardly Steele's fault we lost to Bama.
Remains to be seen whether Steele will actually cost us any games this year. We shall see.
Chavis' defense got worked over pretty good last year before he discovered Beckwith's special purpose.

LSU is currently 48th in third down defense, down from 31st last season
This is funny because..
2015 Opponents 3rd down conversion: 36.04%
2014 Opponents 3rd down conversion: 36.04%
In summary: GFY

Chavis screwed us on recruiting but did us a favor going to Aggie.
I'll let it pass
I'll let it pass

So for $800k less, we get the same results?
Works for me.

And the point still sails over Aggy's head.

I wouldn't exactly say that. We've had a lot of interceptions lately and it's been killing the offense
