It's not looking good. He's come home from the hospital and is now under hospice care. Looks like it's only a matter of time. I just hope he get's his wish and lives long enough to see his LSU Tigers play in Tuscaloosa in a couple weeks.

LSU's Les Miles took time out of preparing for this week's game against Western Kentucky to talk running backs and eternity with a Mountain Brook teen who is now home from the hospital and under hospice care.
Miles, who first called 16-year-old Sid Ortis and prayed with him in March, and then invited him to be his box-seat guest in Death Valley in September, phoned Sid again today. They chatted like old friends, and Miles talked about what they need to do to win this Saturday's game.

Darth, the hospice care update has been known for a while. If you're interested, this is a thread from yesterday that is keeping everyone up to date on the situation.

Yeah it does. It's says a lot about what sort of man Les Miles is. Yeah, coaches and athletes go visit sick kids all the time. But he's become genuine friends with this kid. That says a lot about his character. Reminds me of the story from last year of the bond between Auburn's Sammy Coates and a 12 yr old girl with Leukemia.

Difficult to even fathom. I really hope he makes it to see the game. Yeah it's football but it's still a big deal for a 16 yr old kid. I know it was for me at that age.
Hard to come to grips with a situation like this, for someone with what should be his whole life ahead of him, but his courage and positive attitude, and the compassion and support shown by others, is a victory, no matter what.

This needs to be posted at the beginning of every morning on the SECr to hopefully give the fricking lunatics that swim around here some perspective on life.

Miles is awesome. You can tell by the look on that kids face while he is hugging coach Miles just how much he loves LSU football. God bless him, I hope he gets to see the game.
I can't imagine going through that as a parent!

Some miserable, heartless fricks downvoted the thread that was started yesterday.
What kind of poor excuse for a human would do that????

Someone should start a pray for Sid thread that we can sticky at the top of the board and we can all pray for him and hope he gets to see this game.

I've been trying to stay updated on this subject, without much comment. I understand the passion this child has for his team, but I hope he is surrounded by loving family that will bring him real comfort, than what football can, which I'm sure he has.
At its best, this is a very complicated form of escapism. If you don't believe me, just head on over to tRant and strike up a conversation about how Bama will beat LSU with any one of the million rantards in house
Les Miles has obviously grown attached and fond of this young man and his tragic situation. And there probably is nothing more noble of him, then to try and prepare his team for a game, and inspire them with however he feels about this young man's plight. It's important though that he does not tether the hopes of this young man to mere football anymore, or his family's. I understand this is one of his wishes...to see LSU play Nov. 7th. I just hope the focus can remain on doing what's best for him, sustaining his peace of mind and providing comfort that might prove more helpful for him and in turn his family, considering the hard days, months, and years to come.
Tragedy like these ultimate pains the surviving family members much more than the deceased.

This is a great idea. Hopefully the mods would sticky it quickly once we bombard them with RAs for a sticky.

Sad. Hope he can see the LSU/Bama. Be great if he could flip the coin

As a parent I could not help but tear up because I cannot imagine how tough this is. I am a religious person and believe that we are all children of God. If only more people in the world could look at a situation like this and see how precious other human beings are and change how they treat those around them. Prayers for everyone involved. I hope he can make the Bama LSU game.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”
