Pretty sure smoking was healthy for athletes back then. You know, before anyone gave a damn about pesky little shite like COPD and cancer.

Smoking was so popular even pregnant women smoked a pack a day.
It's just what you did in those days.
The company I work with is about 30-40 yrs old. There are old file cabinets in the offices that have huge, heavy glass ashtrays in the bottom of them because the office workers all smoked at their desk back then.

Freshman year in college (2000) some of classrooms in the older buildings had ashtrays embedded in the desks. Apparently, the back two rows were the smoking rows when you could still smoke in the building.
Which wasn't that long ago. I can still remember when every mall had an ashtray about every 20 feet down the concourse.

A similar question: How much did The Bear drink of his favorite sponsor's product, Jack Daniels, in his office?

I used to smoke in the library at LSU in the early 90s.
Gross habit. I quit when I moved to Oregon.
I'm glad for all the indoor smoke bans now. Second hand smoke stinks up your clothes.
