Potential Muschamp Staff
HC - Boom
OC QB- Kurt Roper or Mangus
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Roper
https://247sports.com/Coach/Kurt-Roper-454
WR of Spec Teams- Bobby Bentley Mangus might to WR/TE's
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Bentley
This could pay off HUGE dividends for in state recruiting, he was Byrnes HC, Lattimore's, highly respected in the state, would scare the shite out of Jeff Scott.
RB - Larry Porter UNC's RB Coach, BIG TIME recruiter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Porter
https://247sports.com/Coach/Larry-Porter-622
OL - Shawn Elliott or Mike Summers would rather have Elliott b/w the 2, but we'll see if he stays.
https://www.gatorzone.com/football/staff/summers
https://247sports.com/Coach/Mike-Summers-184
DL or possible DC Brad Lawing or Tracey Rocker or Chris Rumph you already know who I want. (1 might be the DL, 1 might be the DC, doesn't matter in name, Champ's defense.)
https://247sports.com/Coach/Tracy-Rocker-22
https://247sports.com/Coach/Chris-Rumph-244
https://247sports.com/Coach/Brad-Lawing-12
LB or possible DC - Lance Thompson an UBER Level recruiter, citadel grad, GA native
https://247sports.com/Coach/Lance-Thompson-307
DB - Travaris Robinson worked with Champ at UF and Aub
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travaris_Robinson
https://247sports.com/Coach/Travaris-Robinson-458
played at auburn, could be hard for Champ to pull, but might not be retained by new DC there, so who knows.
I looked a their current salaries too, along the lines of what we're paying our guys now, so it's not a big stretch, it will be more expensive though but as long as we're wiling to go up to $10M for football operation staff, we'll be able to do it.

Lets not forget we heard a lot of "Smart still thinking about USC" right before the AJC reported him to be UGA's next coach.
It's way more likely someone that is coaching this week (Herman, Fedora, hell even Smart) is using this to get a raise.

Not getting hyped up about Herman again just to be disappointed.
I would recommend that for you. Just wait and see here. I think Muschamp or Herman would be good options. I just posted the potential Muschamp staff that 247 released and it looks really impressive from a recruiting standpoint. You pair those guys with a relentless recruiter at HC AND the new facilities and we're going to start recruiting like it's 2007 every year.

Is this who you want or are there rumors?

Just pointing out that WM is going somewhere. Could be here... Could be UGA... Hell, could be Bama.

This is who JC from 247 has said the he has heard about.

Good God, get a grip.
I assume you're referring to the "Mangus to Penn State" rumor I mentioned.
Funny that rooster also heard this very rumor..as did another poster.
And forgive me if I'm wrong..but I thought this was a coaching search thread? Where we shared info/rumors that we've heard regarding coaching? Did I misinterpret the thread title "The Official Coaching Search Thread"?

One thing that I read about Riley last night was that his age, lack of HC experience, and minimal ties to the SE are factors against him becoming our coach. I read about 10 articles, so I can't remember where this one came from, but the columnist suggested that he would be better off to stick it out at Oklahoma for 2-3 years and be primed for a Big 12 job when it came open.

I can't tell you how much I've appreciated everything you and all the other Gamecocks here have brought to this USC board through this search. I haven't been able to read/follow/post regularly throughout the day since the UF/USC weekend, instead needing to help my Pops recover from a health setback.
I have let him read this search thread once a day with me to catch up on things and I can honestly say following this board has helped him get back on his feet raised his spirits. he can't wait to find out what's going on with the search and hounds me to "cut on the Gamecock rant" each day.
Anyways, y'all keep posting and we'll keep reading! Go Cocks!!!

Glad to help... and hope your Pops continues to recover. CG, Rooster, and CIYE are on a roll each day!

New to the board, but wanted to jump in the thread with just opinions.
I usually ascribe to occams razor: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.
So, to me, the 'smokescreens'etc. is just too much. Not only that, but say we do get Muschamp and things fall apart in 2-3 years. Where would we stand with Riley or other 'smokescreen' candidates. You play the game, but you don't burn bridges.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that this thing, at least behind the scenes, isn't over. The search firm should have done all this leg work prior. What I hope, and should be, going on is the final interview process. 3-5 candidates with the top choice already in Tanner's mind and what would be needed to make it happen.
I firmly believe our number 1 choice is coaching this weekend; otherwise, waiting is only hurting the new coach to put together a staff. You can't hire or recruit OC's if you're Muschamp unless you've sign the contract.
To me, the simplest answer is that Muschamp is the safety valve now if the number one backs out after the games Saturday. Be it Fedora, Herman, or (and I haven't heard much about him for USC) Rhule.

I still believe Herman is in the mix. I do not think Fedora is a serious candidate for the position. However, we couldn't hire Boom this week b/c he's still under contract until Dec 6th, otherwise we'd have to pay the buyout for him. We interviewed him this week, but we can't sign him until after the 6th.

None of it makes sense. I can't even connect dots.
Herman is off the table but he has not said it or agreed, signed contract.
If it is Herman, I can't see Tanner interviewing people just to create a smoke screen.
All people rumored now are coordinators, are they being discussed for HC or coordinator.
If Boom, why not announce/leak now. Smart has the same buyout deal yet everyone knows he is the next Ga HC.
People in the know have there mouths locked down. Quiet. I believe nobody has inside info. Saban's coke bottle knows just as much.
Are we quiet because everything is a done deal and the person has a game this weekend or quiet because we are lost and don't want that in the media.
Sunday/Monday can't come soon enough. Regardless of the outcome, good or bad, just get it over with.

If it is Herman, and Ray just sat on his hands and did nothing, then the media would be all over both of them.
Since RT has been doing interviews it has given the media something else to latch onto, so the only people that still think Herman may be a possibility is usc fans.Herman is free to prep for conference championship game without interference, and Ray keeps the media busy for him.
That's my take anyway

If that is the case, it is not a very honest way to do business. Lead somebody on and waste their time is a very easy way to burn a bridge.
Unless they are interviewing for coordinators position. I think that would have gotten out.

How is interviewing someone "leading them on"?
Posted on 12/3/15 at 10:01 am to CNB
You don't know it at the time. If it is a smokescreen, I hope they keep that quiet as well.
Plus jobs like these, you are recruiting as much as you are interviewing. Selling the job knowing you have already filled it is lead you on.
