I agree, the line is starting to gel and it showed in the A&M game. The problem is we can't wait to the mid-point of the season every year for our position groups to come together.
I think we are going to be much like last year later in the season but we shouldn't have to drastically improve every year to make a bowl.

Yeah, that statement was an exaggeration, so I apologize for that. I that we have just become so accustomed to BA being the scapegoat the last 2 years that when he makes a couple bad plays late in games, the focus and blame immediately goes to him. And that is understandable, with him being the QB he does have the most pressure. In 2013? Sure, he was hot garbage and played with an injured shoulder. Even last year he made quite a few questionable plays and was barely more than a game manager for most of the season. But this season the number 1 problem has been the lack of discipline, mainly by the O-line. We have had at least 4 touchdowns called back on penalties, and we only got a total of 3 points out of those drives. That's 25 points left on the board strictly due to penalties (granted, the td against tech was an offensive PI that was weak af and could have been easily called on the defense). Our record is 3-1 at the very least if we don't make those mistakes, because penalties killed at least 2 drives against aggy last week (along with our failure to go for the kill when we had our foot on their throat in the 4th).
I guess what I'm saying is, the blame BA is tired right now, and until he starts putting up 2013/2014 numbers there are much more pressing issues to worry about than his performance.

Problem is everyone this offseason talked as if we had one of the greatest olines in football

We have 4 NFL guards on the line.
I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Yeah...I don't really buy it. We have a few problems in every facet of the game yet we've basically been in every game the last 2 years...that tells me something is working.
We need better player execution and a handful more playmakers in both sides of the ball.
I'm encouraged but understand we got to get over the hump

Well, if that was truly the case, we should have a bad as running and screen game since Guards are pull on the line, but that isn't necessarily the case.
Both of our tackles were recruited as tackles, one guard was recruited as a center, the other guard was recruited as a guard, the center fit in as center, he was recruited as a guard by Petrino IIRC.
The line has been cross trained to play interior or tackle, which isn't a bad thing.

We have a solid running game. The last 2 games we've ran the ball very well.
The problem with 4 guards on the line is we don't have any "athleticism" on the edge. Guards pull but most are not the athletes that true tackles are.

It doesn't matter what they were recruited to play.
You are what you are. Tackles in college get turned into guards all the time once the enter the NFL.

If you are talking about Smothers, then he was actually recruited as a tackle, even started his first game at LT in Tuscaloosa

We need ourselves a Jason Peters in a really bad way.

Peters and Andrews played on the same side of the line most of the time. Talk about blowing people off of the ball!

Tretola to Peters...TD!

Peters was insanely athletic.
Turned out to be an even better NFL player than Andrews, and that is saying a lot.
GD Nutt got lucky recruiting some freaking studs here.

That part of TX seems to put out a bunch of pretty good players... Surprised we haven't had more success recruiting that area to be honest.
