LSU coach Les Miles said Monday that he reviewed the officials’ calls made in Saturday’s contest against Alabama with the Southeastern Conference’s head of officials, Steve Shaw.
Miles said he felt comfortable with Shaw’s explanations of the penalties called, but added that he thought a key unsportsmanlike conduct penalty toward the end of the game could’ve have gone another way.
"He did a great job explaining to me the mechanics and how they looked at things,” Miles said. "I appreciate very much the candidness with which he described each call. I’m very comfortable with how he saw it.”
But Miles added later, "I think that call certainly upon review with the conference could have been made in a different way.”
"I can tell you that there were some personal fouls that appeared to happen there, and not necessarily in that play,” Miles said. "But we talked at length about what the responsibility is to safety. I think there’s a good, quality understanding of what’s expected of the officials. Certainly I’m going to get my guys to comply.”
