Reasons?

serious answers?

1. Malzahn recruits heavily on the offensive side of the ball and leaves very little room for a good defensive class.

2. We take shits on legacy players and players that want to play for Auburn. Davis really wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps and play at Auburn and we shite on him. When you recruit kids that want to be at Auburn, they will forge themselves in the mold that you need and work harder than kids that you are second fiddle for.

3. See reason 1, we have no depth and lots of injuries this season. For two season in a row now, we are playing without our best defensive player.

4. You do need to recruit for a system on both sides of the ball to be optimal. When you change coaches constantly, it makes it very difficult to get kids to play for you the way you need. Every coach needs/prefers different style players and has different ways of coaching.

The best thing for us to do is suck it this year, accept that we might have a really shite season and keep all our coaches to show stability. Get another class of kids in that the defensive staff believes in and let the defense grow. Much like Texas is going through right now, we are in a serious development phase as a program. Zero stability over the last few years leads to kids not wanting to come here, other teams burning up the recruiting trail and we can't show that we can field a good squad.

This is an unfortunate but honest way of looking at it.

Is Gus capable of coordinating the development of our program so we begin to see consistency?

It sucks because I thought our program was already nicely developed. Now I'm realizing that we'll realistically have to wait until 2017 or 2018 to expect championship caliber football. We don't even have a competent QB on the roster...how does Gus let this happen?
