Hill country and couch burners

Bluegrass Region
North central Kentucky holds the Bluegrass Region, named for the bluish colored grass that covers its rolling hills, valleys, and plains. A well-watered area, the Bluegrass Region is skirted by the Ohio River on the north and west. The Kentucky River flows through the area. The fertile soil of the Bluegrass Region allows farmers to grow large crops of tobacco and corn. Gently rolling pastures provide grazing land for horses and cattle. The Bluegrass Region was one of the first areas in Kentucky to be settled. Today, it is home to nearly half of the state’s population. Kentucky’s largest cities—Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort—and most of its manufacturing are in the Bluegrass Region.

Do you ever go to tLC next to Chase?

Sounds like you do law and seems to be a magnet for law dogs and local politicos.

I know that area in your map pretty damn well. In the 50's and 60's it was solid working class. Now the edges of that route have become Little Mexico thanks to Bunker Hunt in the 1980's. If you seriously think that area is hills you are plum loco.

Only Lexington is in the Bluegrass Region of those 3 cities. Frankfort is the sate capitol and I would be surprised if it is in the Top 10 for largest cities in the state. The Golden Triangle is Lexington / Louisville / Cincinnati and the other two are cities on a major river. Lexington is one of the largest cities in the USA not on a major body of water.

I'm not a member, mostly because at this stage I'm too young to see friends there regularly by happenstance. But I do like going, and really like that the menu is pretty good and you can smoke cigars in the bar. I foresee myself joining in 5-10.

Louisville and Lexington are Kentucky's two largest cities by far, but Frankfort isn't third. It's not even in the top ten in population. Covington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Richmond, Hopkinsville, etc are all larger.

McCarthy's is a good spot. Thursday night live will be hopping tonight and Rosebud is a popular spot as well, just around the corner from live. Harvey's is OK and just down the street from live. Stagger Inn for live country music. Parlay Social if you brought bow ties.

I've heard good things about Paulie's Toasted Bourbon Barrel at 500's on Main. Seriously, there are tons of bars downtown, trendy, hipster, historic, sporty, Irish, preppy. Just start drinking and follow the crowd.

That's an old picture of Calumet and has a shot of part of my neighborhood in it. That hotel (or whatever it was) is now a Baptist College and painted a different color.

Versailles has been a nightmare during this construction getting ready for the Breeder's Cup.

Thanks for the invite though.

You do know where the bricks in the fireplace came from?

It was best when it was in the old Phoenix Hotel, but that is where the park is next to the Library downtown. The old TCA was there too before they moved to the Springs and their current location in the white house on Rice Road.

If I am still around by then and you need a sponsor I can probably help you there.

Phoenix was the old downtown hotel (Brown in DaVille type place) and the old Lafayette is the current LFUCG bldg. Well worn down from its former luster.

Same family that owned that hotel owned Campbell House and the old Youcum's, do you remember them?

I don't; Ashland Park. I had no idea the TCA used to be down there too. That's something I've thought a lot about doing. Seems like a steal of a membership for the price.

Are the fireplace bricks in the LC from the Old Phoenix? I've heard amazing stuff about/stories taking place in the basement of that building. I'll be sure to hit you up re: sponsorship for the LC.

As for the Lafayette, I'm working on making sure that becomes something when LFUCG moves out, something other than a parking garage.
