So someone started a thread on a message board about something that will ultimately amount to nothing because he was just rustling aubies jimmies. And you are such a defensive and insecure fanbase that you post this massive wall of text to prove to the troll that aubie didn't do anything wrong. Really?

Most AU fans and administrators know that this is a dead issue. The AD did not try to pressure the Political Science Dept to change a grade or ease any requirements. All they offered was to pay for guest Scholars to help relieve the workload of the Dept. It happens at Universities more than you think.
Some AU fans need to put it to rest.

absolute bullshite. Your Dean is a liar.
and Cam played for Auburn for free when he could have made 180k at MSU.

This happens at every big athletic university. There is no more student in student-athlete. It's about playing football not getting a college degree. I advise my fellow Bama brothers to beware before throwing stones.

Dude. It's almost completely a non-issue/story to the vast majority of SEC fans. People are just messing with your fan base to see who bites (you, frequently, it would appear).
Most fans know similar conversations about majors happen at their school, too.
All that said, your administration needs to lock it down and shut up. Having a guy say something like
quote:is absurd and insulting. He absolutely knew there were athletes in this program, as every dean of every college knows there are athletes in their programs, too.

Sure they know they have athletes in their programs, but they probably dont micromanage to a level of knowing the demographic of each major under them. Thats like having a CEO of a company with thousands of employees knowing every person and their background.

So much wishful thinking by the bammers. I would love for the NCAA to investigate again and then compliment AU on how they run their program. The last time made Bammers heads explode.

The only thing that should even remotely be a concern is if SACS gets involved and considers it intrusion by boosters.
Even THAT is such a leap of logic that it is absurd to contemplate outside of a complete hypothetical.
So, this is a non-issue.
Thank GOD the off season is almost over. 7 days from now, this thread would already be on page 6.

I really don't give a shite...what is funny is watching you guys deflect, obfuscate, make excuses, rationalize....and when all else fails blame Bama....you guys have already taken heat over the same issue with your so-called "Sociology" majors.

Just posting a positive story... Articles are written assuming that the major is bogus... Even USA today used this headline, then wrote a terrible article...
Auburn's athletic department tried to pay for classes players could pass
Of course this is not what happened... It will then be brought up 10 years from now as fact, but the papers got away from facts long ago.
Some Snippets.
What happened at Auburn, though, revealed through some admirable reporting from the Wall Street Journal, is far more disconcerting.
What stands out is the fact that Auburn’s athletic department has apparently been funding selected academic departments and programs quietly for years now. This includes paying for an adjunct professor to teach two classes in the journalism school. Hopefully he or she was not teaching ethics. (Is this a bad thing?)
It’s fun to think that the Auburn football machine — or any football machine — is giving money back to the academic mission of the university, but this system is a travesty and a fraud. The department will fund those programs that are friendly to its cause by creating an atmosphere in which athletes can get by. (NO PROOF GIVEN BUT STATED AS FACT)
To be clear, the athletic department cannot be trusted.

What do you expect him to say?
Yes, AU circles the wagons and nobody talks. AU has benefited from this NCAA regime led by Emmert. If Cam happens under Myles Brand and Tom Yeager Cam would have never played another down in 2010 and AU would have lost 25 schollies with a year bowl ban.
Emmert started wanting "proof" where Yeager would start every comment about sanctions being levied with "it is this committees belief". Very seldom are you gonna get hard evidence hence very few schools on probation now but Yeager would tell you quickly since the NCAA didn't have subpoena power they didn't need hard evidence. Brand got off on nailing schools to the wall.
Quite different these days.

For what? Worst case scenario is that he would've been ineligible to play and we'd have forfeited the games he had played. Auburn knew about the attempts by the Miss State booster to get $ for him before the season started and he wouldn't have played him if it had been a violation.

AU academic wonks vote to eliminate this major.....
Thirty-one members of Auburn's 2013 SEC Championship team were majoring in public administration, which 26 players from the 2014 majored in and 16 current players are majoring in or have completed degrees in......
AD offers to subsidize the major....Admin. caves and keeps it....
AU Rantard posters: Nothing to see here....

The information obtained by the WSJ should have never left the confines of the Plains. AU better be hunting down the rat in their program.

That is not exactly true... They voted to RECOMMEND that it be eliminated based on lack of funding/resources. They have the resources and want the program maintained..

He didn't say he didn't know all the athletes. He said the fact there were athletes in his program was unknown to him, which is BS. He knows he has SOME athletes and, in some cases, he knows the specific athletes. You think the dean of whatever school Cam Newton was in didn't know Cam was in his college? Come on man. The dean of whatever college Julio majored in knew he had Julio. It's not uncommon at ALL schools and he insults our intelligence to spout off that it was "unknown" to him.

Thats like having a CEO of a company with thousands of employees knowing every person and their background.
The CEO doesn't know every employee, but he knows the employees who are relevant to his business and he knows the ones who works for his company that his peers value (i.e. the "connected" people in his company).
I'm not arguing that this is a big issue. It's not, in my opinion. My point is that the Dean needs to shut up because he's not really helping himself here. If he just shuts up then the weekend will get here and it's a non-issue next week.
