If you know you're drunk, refuse to blow. But don't admit to drinking, or say you haven't been drinking. Just say "if you gotta take me to jail, take me to jail". It takes 15 min to get you to station, another 30-40 min to prepare the machine that you blow in. Right when they get it ready, tell them you prefer a blood test. They have to put you back in the car, drive to the hospital, and go through the process to get blood work done. You're sober by this time

I'm guessing you've never actually done this. You will still get a DUI even if you do all that. When you sign your driver's license you agree to blow. If you refuse they'll just give you a field sobriety test and arrest you for refusal to blow.

A lawyer will have a much easier time getting you an off the charges when they have minimal evidence. Not saying it always works but.... the more obsticles you give them, the better the outlook.

the automatic loss of license is a sham. if you ended up being charged with a DUI, you will obviously need representation. The lawyer will help lessen the blow. If it's your first offense, you will get like 30 days suspended and 60 days restricted (in Missouri). My lawyer told me to never say a word or blow.

I don't think anyone is condoning drunk driving, i.e. DWI, but many people believe our DUI laws, thanks in large part to many political influences (MADD and DUI lawyer lobbyists, local P.D. revenue generation, high profile media stories, etc.) are a bit excessive.

You would be wrong!

I have buried friends killed by drunk assholes and I have ridden with others in the ambulance who survived. I am fine with drinking but I never think drinking and driving (no matter the BAC) is fine. I would probably come down on the zero tolerance side and I am fine with drinking. Be responsible on your own and the problems go away.

Same with athletes and crap they do. If a coach says nothing good happens after 10pm there is probably truth and experience in their words.

While I see where you are coming from, I disagree. Driving isn't a right, it's a privilege. If you are willing to get behind the wheel after drinking and put someone else's life on the line, you deserve to pay the price.

With that being said, I still (stupidly) drive home when I'm buzzed at times.

Yeah it's not good to drink and drive at all but I guarantee 8/10 people have drank a beer/wine and drove. These people posting here acting like they never have is bullshite. You mean to tell me every time you've gone out to a dinner you've never had a beer? And a lot of the times you won't have a DD.

Having a normal sized beer with dinner and driving is a far damn cry from getting soused at a bar or club and driving.

I think we need incredibly stiffer penalties for any kind of drunk driving offense. 1st time - 1 year in jail, no probation.
Would end a lot of it immediately.

I mean to tell you 100% if I go out and drink, I do not drive. Just not worth it, same can be said of drugs and texting. A vehicle is a large mass of physics that can mess up more than you can on foot. Give it the respect such a large mass deserves. Look, when you are first drinking in college you think you are invulnerable but I can tell you this is not the case.

If you do not have a DD, call a cab, or check into a motel.

So you mean to tell me after one drink everytime you've gone out you are getting a cab or a motel? Yeah that's the good thing to do but I would bet an extremely small percentage of people would actually do that. Saying that is one thing, actually doing it is another.

So if that is the case, where you do not have a ride or a place to stay, you skip the first drink in the first place. The key being taking responsibility first and having a plan from the start instead of making a plan down the road. Do this and you will be surprised how easy it is. It also prevents much unneeded headache and heartache. Oddly enough, if you get known for it over time, you will be surprised that folks will help you. I was serious about cops driving me home when I was younger and some became lifelong friends.

The other thing I have noticed is solid DD's are good about taking turns if it gets balanced pretty evenly. You can make plans, or you can make excuses, and only you can do it. I am only offering suggestions on how to do it.
