When you can stop here: "It's the oldest rivalry." it means something, otherwise, it doesn't.

We didn't, someone else did after determining it wasn't important.

Alabama and Auburn are inseparable and belong in the same division.

AU has more of an eastern feel to me. I'd be fine with moving and even making it a non-conference season ender. One less directional school for each program.

Didn't know you are in charge of what parameters I could place on an individual rivalry game?

Go frick yourself.

The people in charge decided the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry was important enough to protect going forward. Deal with it.

The Iron Bowl directly decided the SEC champion in 1971, 1974, and 1989. It additionally decided the SEC West champion in 2013.

they could keep cross division and just go to 9 conf games. problem solved. all teams to play each other with often enough.

personally i would like to go to 9 conf games and no cross div rival, but w/e.

Which is great and all. But I bet the alabama/Tennessee game has had larger implications for the SEC throughout the years. Even if it wasn't the last game played

Please stop showing your stupidity. It's the oldest rivalry in the SEC. How is that?

WTF are you talking about? When did I ever call the AU v. UF rivalry the "most" important to the SEC or even either school? It was a big rivalry to be sure but it was never the biggest for either school.

Some things of note about Auburn and Florida.

1)Auburn and Florida have played each other more times in their history than Florida has played FSU.

2)Auburn had played Florida about the same number of times that Florida had played Georgia prior to expansion. Georgia has been able to pass that mark since expansion but prior to that, Auburn was just as much of a rival to Florida as Georgia was.

3)Florida is more Auburn's rival than Alabama is. Auburn and Florida have played each other a great deal more than Auburn and Alabama have even with expansion killing the rivalry.

Auburn was one of Florida's biggest rivals until the SEC fricked us on that one. Auburn belongs in the east with our main rivals, Georgia and Florida. Missouri rightfully belongs in the west where they are geographically located and Auburn belongs in the east where they are geographically located.

I'd like to play UF regularly again like we did when I was in school. I freaking HATED Florida. Worse that Georgia, Worse than Bama. Was not a nice rivalry in the 80's and 90's.

I dont dislike UF so much any more. Im older and we dont play as often. But would be good to be on some sort of rotation every other year or so somehow.

GT and UT were also rivalry games for AU that I enjoyed.Hate to admit it but the Aubbies did get screwed by the SEC scheduling Gods back in the day.

Bama,UT,UF,UGA and GT as permanent opponents.

They were many rivals back then. Amen Corner. Auburn has never shied away from a tough opponent.

I hated UF as well. More than bama at times. Was at the swamp in '94, 96, 98, and 02. And every UF game in AU for about 20 years since I was in first grade.

It was huge. Bigger and much much nastier than AU and UGA most of the 80s and 90s.

Few other notes about the rivalry.

AU and UF were the ONLY reason the SEC went to two division rivals from 92-02. No one else had a second major cross division rival but the AU-UF game was considered so important that every other SEC team was assigned one so AU and UF could play yearly.

Even though the teams quit playing annually 13 years ago, AU and UF have played 83 times. More than all but a handful of SEC teams have playet each other.

The teams had played 48 years in a row until the 2003 season.

Yep. Which resulted in the second toughest schedule ever played by any college team in 1983. And of course finishing that schedule with the best record in college football (tied) that year made it a historical season.
