It wasn't last year. The SEC was actually quite over-rated last year. However, most years it is, but not close to the level it use to be.

Agreed, especially after the West was exposed to be a bunch of paper tigers in this past bowl season. However, I just think we had an uncanny number of down years across the conference in 2014, with it being a relative down year (in terms of historical or present program standpoint) for the likes of Auburn, A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, and South Carolina.

I still think we're the best, mostly because I think the Pac-12 is top-heavy in terms of comparison, but there's no arguing that they've anted up in terms of coaching with guys like Rich Rod, Todd Graham, Petersen, Leach, and Mora. In terms of the here and now, I think that their conference strength is being overblown heading into the season much like ours was this time last year.

I'll never buy into the hype of a Big Ten resurgence because of sociodemographic handicaps, and because they still have too many perennial cellar dweller programs like Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Maryland and Purdue junking up the place, as well as lower tier programs like Rutgers and Minnesota with geographic problems. There's just not enough historical relevance or local talent to keep more than a few programs at a level of sustained success, especially compared to the fertile recruiting grounds of the South and the West coast.
