Yeah don't expect to be on a level playing field in professional interviews if you have visible tattoos. At least in this part of the country.

Wait, what? What was the tattoo and what bar? Keeping people out of a bar in Athens for a tattoo would mean not getting much business.
I have two very visible tattoos on my lower arms. I waited until after I completed my Ph.D. and got into my career a good bit before I went below the short sleeve line, but I know many people who have full sleeves and work in a variety of professional jobs. The stigma is certainly going down. I would never get one on my hand or my neck, though, because there are times when I need to cover mine.
