It is a good question. Again, I think it is difficult to put things in C-USA numbers when you watch the SEC.

2007-2013 was pretty much the destruction of the program. That is Neil Callaway's 5 years + 2 of McGee.
UAB's 19 year existence in FBS: 18,606 average.
Troy in FBS:
2014 - 16,721 - 3-9
2013 - 18,906 - 6-6
2012 - 20,952 - 5-7
2011 - 17,898 - 3-9
2010 - 18,947 - 8-5
2009 - 18,413 - 9-4
2008 - 19,231 - 8-5
2007 - 20,479 - 8-4
2006 - 20,810 - 8-5
2005 - 19,425 - 4-7
2004 - 7-5
2003 - 6-6
2002 - 4-8
2001 - 7-4
Average: 19,178 for the past 10 years since I couldn't find their first 4 years. If I had to guess, their first 4 years are lower than their overall average.
South Alabama in FBS:
2014 - 17,435 (13,000 without the Miss. State home game) - 6-7
2013 - 15,926 - 6-6
Average: 16,680.5
Comparing UAB to it's peers is a lot better than comparing UAB football to Alabama, Auburn, or the SEC.

It shouldn't be unreasonable to expect 30k given that they are the only DI team in the top market for cfb in the country.
I say this as one of the few UAB alums who ever attended any games.

In 2013 they didn't even meet the minimum required by the NCAA (15,000) to stay division 1 football. They barely made the minimum in 2012.
The City of B'ham buys 5,000 tickets for $45 apiece to keep UAB above the minimum. They give the tickets away to employees, youth groups. LINK
Wouldn't you think that the city would use that money for other things it needs instead of supporting a football program?
And now a state representative has introduced a bill wanting the state taxpayers to support a football team. No thanks, I want my tax dollars to go elsewhere.
