The NCAA will no longer allow transfers to apply for a hardship waiver to become immediately eligible at their new school.

According to Yahoo! Sports' Nick Bromberg, the NCAA has ratified a new amendment that will allow transfers a possible sixth year of eligibility if they were already redshirted at a previous school. Transfers who leave schools under circumstances that previously qualified athletes for hardship waivers will now be forced to sit out a season.

I hate it for many reasons...

One of which is because Khari Harding transferred to Tulsa from Auburn in hopes of being able to play closer to home and his father, who has cancer. Now he has to sit out a year.

It's so fricked up that coaches can job hop with no repercussions. The NCAA is so out of touch.

Just another case of the NCAA fricking over students.

It's stupid. It was a valid reason to allow the transfer when they didn't allow it to be used as just an easy out. But I guess because they're too dumb to regulate it, they're getting rid of it all together.

On a personal note, my family is very close with Jay Prosch and his family. I know it was a huge relief/blessing to him and Mrs Prosch that he was granted the hardship waiver, allowing him to transfer to Auburn. He was able to spend much more time with her during her waning days than he would have been able to had he still played for Illinois.

So it just seems cruel to prevent kids from having this option in rare occasion that it's needed.
