And basically calls the B1G and PAC trying to make it about academics instead of student athletes going pro early bullshite.

quote:
"Let's step back and consider our goal. If we are trying to impact graduation rates and grade point averages, we have to remember that each college student has his or her own academic challenges. To put a blanket over these student-athletes with a year on the bench doesn't address those individual needs to incentivize academic progress. Many students do come to college prepared both academically and athletically ready to compete in the classroom and in competition, and to penalize those students with a universal policy may create unintended consequences not beneficial to many student-athletes.
"If this proposal is about student-athletes turning professional, we need to be careful not to create rules for a few that penalize the many. The universe of student-athletes who leave early for professional sports is very small compared to the numbers that participate in football and men's basketball. And just because a student-athlete enters professional sports does not mean he or she has totally abandoned their academic pursuits."

Because UK hasn't won't multiple championships in multiple decades under multiple coaches through everything down to the first time they had freshman in eligibility.

There is a lot more parity now than 1998 and before. Welcome to mediocrity since Calipari won't be able to cheat anymore.

Bitter isn't a good look on you.

You don't actually think freshman ineligibility is going to happen, do you?

Ok. Say this passes. Then Cal recruits at the same level and has players in his system for a year learning from more experienced players. How is this a bad thing for Kentucky? They've proven this year what a year in college can do for them

You don't like it because it makes it harder for you cheating cheaters who cheat to cheat.

Sure its coming back and for a very good reason at that. The only reason it stopped was after title nine was enforced the schools argued that they couldn't afford to carry freshman scholarships.... What a crock of crap that turned out to be.
I say bench them for a season and see if they can make grades while playing on the JV.
Two things it kills the recruiting spectacle and the dummies that don't belong in college will go play in Canada or some other NFL farm league.

If they make freshmen ineligible then I guarantee there will be a title IX suit forcing them to make ALL freshmen athletes in every university sport ineligible. If that happens, the MLB and NBA will get involved then it will all quickly fall apart. They won't be able to cherry pick which sports can have freshman eligibility and which sports won't.

There are literally no good reasons for it to come back

The kids have to make grades now. There is a thing called the APR, you should look it up.

The only good reason is because people are under the (stupid) assumption that it will somehow hurt Kentucky

UK would be just as good if freshmen could not play. The stars would all go to Europe and Cal would still get the best of whatever recruits actually wanted to go to college 3-4 years. Cal is a great recruiter, not just a great recruiter of one and done players.

Because Kentucky wouldn't be able to recruit at all if the rule was passed.

I don't. It's a ploy by the Big X to stop the talent advantage for the SEC. Several SEC football programs sweep up most of the best athletes, especially in the talent-laden Southeast. Also, UK is vacuuming up the best basketball prospects prospects and channeling them into the NBA.
The Big X is interested in talent parity, not academic parity. They, with the PAC were once powerful enough to effect their will. That isn't the case anymore. The SEC, ACC and Big 12 can easily counter any initiative by the Big X.
Besides, ESPN polled the nation and 88% favored keeping the status quo.

He's right. It's a crock of shite for the Pac12 and Big10 to pretend this is about helping kids acclimate to school.
This is all about creating a need to add more scholarships so they can suck up talent that might go to smaller conferences like the MWC and MAC b/c they offer kids a chance to play early.

It's so unusual to see a dumb statement from an Aggie. You do realize that 7 of UK's 8 national championships came before the new rules, right?

One would think that a practitioner of sarcasm wouldn't be quite so inept at recognizing it in others.
