Meh.
Mullen's built a solid program in Starkville.
Five consecutive bowl games
Five consecutive winning seasons
Three seasons of 8+ wins
One ten-win season (second or third in school history, IIRC)
Two final rankings in the AP Poll (only happened nine times in school history, IIRC)
Dak has certainly been the catalyst for their ten-win season in 2014.

I worked in one where these laws were interpreted pretty strictly. Look at MDOC and problems they are having with no-bid contracts, the former commissioner going to the federal pen, etc.
That's ridiculous.
Most sales contracts in Louisiana have a ten-year limit, which makes sense because the prescription period (statute of limitations) for contractual breaches is ten years as well.
I don't have a problem at all with employment agreements being limited to 4 years, though.

Wrong.
Civil law > common law.

The extension is based on what he has successfully built. Our administration believes that he has built a sustainable path to continuous improvement. Building a team off of development is in concept, and so far in practice, more sustainable than more flash in the pan approaches to building a program. He's taken one of the worst football programs historically and made it something fans can be proud of. New facilities, a renovated stadium, and a premier contract with one of the major apparel companies. He, and The rest of the department, have done a hell of a lot and I'm glad we are paying him for it.
- He also took a team from unranked to number 1 faster than any other in history.
- Held us at number 1 in the country in all 3 polls for 5 weeks, the first time we have ever been ranked number 1 in any poll.
- The first coach to win 3 consecutive top 10 opponents since like '83. I realize they didn't finish ranked that high, but it's still an impressive accomplishment, and some of their eventual decline has to be attributed to those games.

Civil law > common law.
Common sense > civil law > common law
Do you want to lock into a price for a drug for 10 years when the FDA patent protection rolls off after 7? Do you want to lock into prices for commodities that fluctuate with oil prices?

If you have a good lawyer, you can get out of this. Maybe toss in an option contract or two to leverage your purchase, bud.
Simple solutions to simple problems.
Also, I'm saying that ten years is the maximum allowable term by law. It's not the required term, it's just the longest the state legislature will allow you to enter into a sales contract.
At least you admit that the civil law > common law

He is a good coach. I give him shite, of course, but anyone with a pulse can see that he is a good coach and has built a very solid foundation in Starkvegas.

4.275 mill a year for the Mississippi St job??? Listen, they had a great year for their standards, but they will be lucky to repeat it again any time soon.
This is really jumping the gun putting him above 4 mill.

I think it has more to do with being in 5 straight bowl games, and building a consistent program.

I mean, other coaches in the division are getting paid more to do less with annual top 10 recruiting classes.

I thought that TAMU raise was even more absurd than this. Iowa is still paying ridiculous money for 7-5 or 9-3 Ferentz. I'm not saying he shouldn't get a raise, but pretty much 4.3 mill for 10 wins? Yes, I know it's Mississippi State, but that is part of the reason why it's a little crazy.
If a super experienced MSU team with a heisman level QB couldn't win the division last year with a bad Auburn, TAMU, and LSU, what happens the next two years, and three years? Going at 4.275 mill means high expectations. That's producing few -9 win seasons and regular 10+ wins seasons.
I think 3.75-85 would have been a much better number and depending on the next two years, an extension with something over 4 mill would be easier to swallow. I think they did this just to keep him here to be honest.
