Wow. So according to Seth Emerson, the option being discussed is where the current Ag Co-op is off Lumpkin:
If this were the case, no way it's only $12 mill. UF is building a plain looking facility on undeveloped land for $15 mill right now. We'd have to pay to tear down the building on the lot, tear up a parking lot, and then build what would have to be a nice looking facility given the prominent location on Lumpkin.
quote:
It is not clear whether the location for the facility will be formally approved, but one site has emerged as a possibility: The area just beyond the existing outdoor practice fields, off of Lumpkin Street, leading up to Stegeman Coliseum.
Other locations had not been ruled out as of last month: An off-campus area off Milledge Avenue, or tearing up one of the existing outdoor fields and building it there. But the location off Lumpkin seems a good compromise, keeping the existing facilities but not having it far from the Butts-Mehre building.

Not necessarily. Ag school has lots of money and donors, and grants and such. They could be getting themselves something nice and new and shiny built for them, which would pay for the demo of the old place.... real nice like, off the AD books see...

I'd be all for tearing down the Ag building at the corner of Lumpkin and Carlton. The building is extremely old and dumpy looking (albeit historic style architecture). I'm excited to see renderings if they select that area of Carlton. It would completely reshape the area where that parking lot next to Stegeman is.
