Ga. Tech's recruiting class.

I hadn't heard much about it, so I took a look. It's a mostly nondescript group especially on defense. Johnson should forego some of the RB's (6 or 7 recruits listed as RB) and try to improve his DL. They did get a WR from Florida who looks equivalent to Michael Chigbu, and a short LB'er from Florida who's built and plays like Rennie Curran.
Other than those two, the best player I saw was Marcus Marshall, Keith's brother. He looks like a more natural runner than Keith, better lateral mobility and quicker, although probably not as powerful. Interestingly, on a couple of runs you can see him use Keith's patented windmill motion for balance.
I'm sure the tech fans are planning their dominance for next season, but this kind of class won't get them many 10 win seasons.

Marcus is half the back Keith was coming out of HS. Had Keith stayed healthy, he would be a second or third round pick this year.

Not familiar with GT's class, but they don't necessarily go for players that rank well. they go for system players. They want players that fit their system. From what I heard, this is the best class GT has pulled in since Paul Johnson has been there.

Add to this the fact that the cheatin' knee ruining fricker (Johnson) coaches 'em up and Tech could be pretty competitive in the ACC. Johnson is a prick who should be banned from CFB for his cheating arse ways but the fricker can get a lot out of 2 and 3 star recruits.

I wasn't going by rankings, just looked at the players and their videos and combine numbers. I wasn't impressed, especially with the defensive players. They do have a few offensive skill players that look good on film. I really did like Marcus Marshall.

NFL cut blocking is not really the same as a lot of the shin diving Tech players do, but don't try to tell one of those petulant little Tech counts who know it all. There are $1000s in fines given out to NFL players under the scope of what is considered a cut block. Not that any of them will actually educate themselves as it would cloud the bullshite myth they live in.

I enjoy looking at how our opponents recruit. Tech had a good season and I thought Paul Johnson and his staff did a good job of coaching in 2014. Ted Roof doesn't have much to work with, and won't in the future unless they recruit better, but he took Mike Bobo to school IMO. I expect next year will be a very different story because UGA's defense will be much better and hopefully our offense will be able to take what the defense is giving them.
On the subject of cut/chop blocking (I use the hyphen because Tech did a lot of both in recent years IMO), they seemed to do less of it last year. I believe Johnson modified how his OL blocked and actually had more success without the knee diving on every play.

They still did a lot of open field, from the side ankle diving.

They did. The change, at least from my casual observation, was in how their OL blocks. I think the rules should be changed on cut blocking, especially anything on the LOS and blocks from the side in the open field.

he had a couple of tackles last year that was as good as they come...that happens about maybe once every 3-4 yrs..
