What new rules will we see?
Four main changes happened today:
•Schools can now offer scholarships that cover the full cost of attending the university.
•Coaches can no longer pull scholarships from athletes for athletics-only reasons.
•Athletes can now borrow against their future earnings when obtaining loss-of-value insurance.
•The schools made a vague pledge to limit the time athletes spend on their sports.
What is the voting process?
The power conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC) can pass their own legislation. This involves voting by the 65 schools, 15 player representatives, and the conferences themselves.
New rules can be approved either by 60 percent of the 65 power schools and 15 player representatives (48 votes) and three of the power conferences or by 51 percent of the 65 power schools and 15 player representatives (41 votes) and four of the power conferences.

George O'Leary said this was getting voted on a few months ago when I heard him talk. He said this is to stop certain teams from abusing the system. Then he blatantly looked at all the team banners around the room and singled out the alabama one and said, some more than others.

I'd love to hear who these players are.

So Cali schools can pay SA's twice as much cash as SEC schools cause everything cost more in LA & Palo Alto? Miami can pay SA's more than UF can in Gainesville? Sounds like just another bucket of worms opened to me. Who is gonna decide what the "full cost of attending the university" is? The school? The NCAA?...
I agree it needs to be done but it's gonna be a mess...

Mr 5 star, Mr. Big Bucks booster will "loan" you $50,000 dollars a year, against future earnings, if you sign with us.
This should end well.
This should end well.

No where in the world can you borrow money against "future earnings". The fine print in that is going to be a fricking thousand pages. There is NO WAY that is going to go well as a whole.

If you start paying players outright, you'll see the product on the field diminish. Guarantee.

They already have a formula for paying rent stipends for each school. Schools are already allowed to pay more than others for housing

Looks like O'Leary hit a nerve.
And the last thing a Gump needs to do is get into a discussion of coaches that lie.

Loans take into account current earnings

If the players can take a loan from future earnings, will we start seeing less early departures? Stay an extra year and try to get a ring?
