In all honesty would Bama be upset? Would we be excited? In all of Bamas big games in the last 3 years, except when they play our anemic offense , Bamas defense has been utter shite

Yea......I still think Kirby and Saban are good, but we certainly aren't at a high point right now.

Also, say Smart leaves for LSU, would that mean Pruitt to Bama leaving UGA holding the bag????

Highly doubtful. Pruitt just got a $1.3 mill per year raise over the next 3 years and now has the full cooperation and support of the AD. No reason to leave and work under Saban's thumb when he has so much control at UGA. Plus, only thing really missing from his resume at this point is longevity as a DC. in 2 or 3 years he'll move on to a HC position.

LSU hired Patrick Murphy to coach softball a few years ago.

He eventually came back after a week but it was a big deal for that week.

Doesn't Saban basically run the defense at Alabama?

That's always been the belief. If Kirby has any hope outside of waiting for Saban to ride off into the sunset he needs to make a move now IMO. His stock is declining with every game against a HUNH team

I can't imagine he'd take a DC job anywhere else, but who knows.

I agree with this. If he want's the Bama job he may be better off being a DC or HC elsewhere when Saban retires.

Seems like Bobo has beat him and Muschamp for now in terms of former UGA players advancing in their careers. Muschamp peeked too early as a HC and Kirby seems to be stuck waiting for a job that will never come. Meanwhile, Bobo is taking up the reigns at a decent mid-major program in time for him to build his resume before the UGA job opens back up. Will be interesting to see THAT battle between Bobo, Pruiit, Smart, and maybe even Schott when the time comes.

I can see it now. Smart to LSU as DC. Produces an outstanding D now that he has full control. LSU wins many games. Saban leaves Alabama. Smart to Bama. Baton Rouge explodes again.

No - Kirby definitely runs it. But clearly Saban's hands are all over it.

It appears that way.

That 60 Minutes piece on Saban never mentioned Kirby Smart. Are we sure Kirby can develop anything with Lord Saban in the building? I'm not sure I'd trust Kirby to unwrap an oatmeal cream pie if Saban isn't nearby.

I have a hunch we'd be doing Bama a favor by taking Smart off their hands.

Problem is Smart is now battling the anti-defensive coach as head coach thing. It still happens occasionally (Narduzzi at Pitt for one), but it is happening less and less.

me either. But maybe he wants to get out of Nick's shadow/tired of working with him. People get tired of being around Saban quite often.

But that's grasping at straws imo. I dont see this as anything more than leverage for a raise.

I couldn't tell you who does what during weekly prep work, but Smart makes all the calls during the game (along with the MLB and safety).

In every big game over the last three years sans LSU, here is Smart's defense
2012
gave up 29 A&M
gave up 28 UGA
gave up 14 Notre damw

1-2 for smart in terms of good D

2013
gave up 42 A&m
gave up 34 Aubie
gave up 45 OU

0-3

2014
Gave up 23 Ole miss
Gave up 20 MSU
Gave up 44 Aubie
Gave up 14 mizzou
gave up 42 OSU

SO 2-3 IN GOOD defense

Bamas defense is actually their losing point now

Because the past 3 weeks y'all have trolled the hell out of LSU fans about not having a d-cordinator and then they would go out with an A+ hire IMO.
