I don't claim to be knowledgeable, I just saw that our offense was very successful in the vast majority of games that Nuss coached at Alabama.
I admit that he was stubborn sometimes when we should have been pounding the rock, but everyone has their flaws.
I'm not calling him great, I am calling him good.

Wasn't even talking to you. I do, however, stand behind my original statement.
Nuss apologists, in my experience at least...were not bad people or anything, but they obviously did not pay very close attention.
Our talent advantage hid some serious coaching flaws, particularly on the fly offensive adjustments and play calling.

2012 LSU, 2012 Georgia, and the 2014 Sugar Bowls are examples of that.
Alabama should have thrown deep more versus 2012 Texas A&M and passed more versus 2013 Auburn.
All of those teams were Top 10 opponents. It's a pretty big deal to have poor playcalling versus Top 10 teams. Who really cares about the offense looking good versus teams that have lost 3 or more games. When it came to playcalling against the SEC's best, he faltered, and Alabama was fortunate to overcome that a few times.

I had no problem with his playcalling in the 2013 IB. Our players just didn't execute, plain and simple.
2012 UGA is a good example, but he turned it around in the second half, whether you believe that that was all Saban or not.
The second half of 2012 LSU was kind of a head scratcher, I agree.
And didnt AJ throw for nearly 400 yards against A&M in 2012? And we should've thrown more, you say?
The Sugar Bowl was just a bad performance all around by our team. Nuss didn't turn the ball over like we did.

Honestly, this brings me back to how much I disliked the McElwain hire at first, I'm worried he's going to try and model Florida on Bama instead of doing what he did everywhere outside of Tuscaloosa and run the shotgun spread.
Given how the hire was sold, and the mood of the fan base Mac better be running a shotgun spread ala Fresno and Colorado State because trying to go power pro style ala Bama will get him fired in 3 or 4 seasons, Florida doesn't have the recruiting base to be a power team and the fan base won't tolerate it after watching Boom try that crap for 4 years.

Florida really dropped the ball. Your offense is going to be mediocre to watch. Nuss lost 3 or 4 games for Bama because of his playcalling. The auburn and oklahoma game being huge examples of that.

Ignore cloudy, he is a kid.
You're right when you say nuss wasn't awful or hot garbage, but I was glad to see him go.
By all accounts he was a good coach in all the other phases.
Also, more to the point of this thread, no one really knows how good of a recruiter he would be at a mediocre program. Fortunately for Florida fans, he's in a similar (slightly diminished) position there that he was in at Alabama. I wouldn't worry about recruiting if I was a gator fan, you guys just need a good coaching staff.

Florida football at the HS level is highly, highly biased towards spread and spread option teams especially in South Florida, it's why it produces some good power back occasionally but far, far more scat backs, small and quick spread WRs etc.
I mean I wouldn't go too far but there's a reason none of the big 3 Florida schools have seen success as run heavy power teams like LSU or Bama (excepting the Tebow Years where Tim was a one man power team) and instead are driven by speedy playmaker and a proficient QB- think about it Florida teams have played in roughly 40-50% of title games since 1980 and basically every one of those teams was driven by a good to great passing game with a complimentary run game.

I'm not saying it's impossible but Florida trying build around being a power team is like Bama deciding to become an Air Raid program, it could work but seems incredibly stupid to try.

Understandable. Thank you for the explanation.

I can agree with this. I was kind of indifferent at the end of 2013 season, and I thought a change was good.

Surely you remember when Nebraska roflstomped spurrier in early 1996?
Only after he committed to being a more physical team, was he able to get over the hump and actually win a championship.

Please disregard him. He doesn't post anything that is positive. Lives under a dark cloud.
Of course there are no big power running backs in the state of Florida...oh wait? Isnt Derrick Henry from Florida? You fricking kidding me?

So Nuss threw INTs, fumbled, dropped TD passes, missed blocking asssignments and coverages, and got called for very untimely, avoidable penalties? Huh.

Yeah Reel, I'm the one whose off not you the guy who told all of us Boom was the answer and that this year he'd turn it around.

Miami did it for years, FSU is doing it now. Muschamp just didn't put enough emphasis on offense to have any type of successful O.
