It's been mentioned in other threads but not really discussed beyond the possibility of Clark coaching elsewhere.
I know of at least 2 UAB grads on this board so I know we have some opinion here

You can't repeatedly set an entity up to fail, then bitch that they're not a cash cow.

UAB could be a solid program with a positive revenue stream.
The only problem with created that is that it would siphon off boosters and fans from Alabama to create such a situation. Pretty obvious why it is unsuccessful and not given the proper support

Heard this morning that they essentially told the previous head coach the program was being shut down and when they hired Clark didn't tell him squat.

To anyone that isn't a bama fan trying to cover for this BS power move, it is apparent that UAB never had a chance to earn positive cash flow.
It has also been made known of Jr's vendetta against UAB and peculiar that this is happening as he is exiting the BOT.
What fan base would ever want to have to attend games at Legion Field every home game?
I think the governor claiming to look into it is just window dressing to cover his arse politically.

Lifelong Birmingham resident and been following UAB athletics since Darrell Hackney and Roddy White were playing in Legion Field and Squeaky Johnson and the Taylor twins were upsetting 1 seed Kentucky in the NCAA tournament. I've been pissed at the way UAB athletics has been undermined for years now.
I remember not long before the Jimbo Fisher hire was nixed there was a Bama basketball player from Bham than wanted to transfer to UAB and the denied it and released him to play everywhere except UAB. Theyre too scared to even play UAB so it wasn't even a threat to them. shite pissed me off.

The UA system wants all the good parts of UAB (Med school, academic prowess) without having to throw a bone to the athletic department or for campus upgrades. UAB having a robust university is good for the state and Birmingham, but I guess UA is worried about losing fans and - more importantly - money. It's BS for sure.

Oh Chuck, you're always good for a laugh...

Makes me sad, also sad I wasn't still up there to march with my fellow blazers.

UA should be ashamed. I hope the blowback is tremendous. My dad was a fervent UA fan who went to UAB. He is a UA fan no more.

UAB started a football donors program at the beginning of this year, so it didn't have time to start bringing in huge amounts. A donor/alumni 2 weeks ago said he would give $10 million and the powers that be turned it down. This was not a decision made this year. This was planned years ago and no amount of money raised or donated since this all started was going to change it. They could have been pledged $30 and it wouldn't have mattered. They would just brush it under the table like it didn't happen. Coach Clark was hired with the intention of running the program into the ground and in 3-4 years cancel it. But little did they know he was a damn good coach and could turn it around. The BOT saw this and panicked so they pulled the plug now instead of waiting 3 years when they could be a 9+ win football team.
