Odds of them returning kick off: <1%.

Odds of them getting 20 yards and making 50+ yard field goal: roughly 10% probably less.

Anyways our coach chose the option that was 10 times more likely to occur. Excellent

Even if those probabilities are true, GT has a 10% or less chance of executing either way. The squib is the textbook play when they've got less than 20 seconds and they can't move the ball efficiently for huge gains.

All of this. I like the squib if there are less than 10 seconds on the clock, or if they need a 4 or more points to tie you. That was not the case here, and that's why it was a horrible call.
