Dealing with what we control...
Bama and State to playoffs.
Ole Miss blew it today.
When we handle jackets, we will be highest ranked SEC by far.
Selection committee will put an SEC team in Orange by affiliation. I am confused whether they HAVE to put an ACC team if FSU goes to playoffs?? If not, UGA vs Ohio State game would be solid match up.

Without Gurley can we really beat osu north?

Actually, I think Orange has to take highest ranked ACC team/Notre Dame if FSU goes to layoffs. Currently that is Clemson which they wouldn't rematch us with.

It's Georgia tech right now, but it won't be after the next two weeks hopefully

State will not make the playoffs unless:
1) They win out
2) BAMA loses
3) Ohio State loses
If BAMA beats barners, and UGA beats BAMA, then the committee is faced with a bit of a dilemma -
1) Take a 2 loss UGA SEC champ - I don't think
2) Take a 1 loss State non-SEC champ over the conference champ - I don't think
3) Leave the SEC out - I think
This assumes State wins out.

In my true troll self, I sort of want this option. It would be atonal UGA thing to screw the rest of the SEC having already screwed themselves harder.

Last time I booked January rooms in Miami, I had to cancel. I want playoffs but it would be nice to have a meaningful bowl with a decent matchup.

Did this change? I know a lot has changed due to the playoffs and I have not followed all the changes, but we used to be affiliated with the Sugar Bowl.
ETA
Just looked and saw that the Sugar is part of the Playoff this year, so the Orange Bowl would get the ACC #2 and a choice among SEC #2, B1G #2 or Notre Dame. GT (If they lose to Florida St.) would be the ACC #2, so I doubt they would pick a Georgia/GT rematch. Now if somehow, GT were to beat Florida State, and Florida State did not go to the playoff, then they might very well pick Florida State and us. I'm still not sold that two SEC teams would go to the playoffs, though.

1) Wouldn't surprise me if they won out.
2) Auburn could beat them....rivalry game.
3) Ohio State, IMO, will get beat by Wisconsin.

I'm going to try and find this information, but I don't think the Orange bowl has to take the #2 ACC team if they aren't ranked, which is quite possible if Tech loses out and Clemson chokes against Carolina.

Orange will choose the second highest ranked ACC if FSU goes. Could have picked Notre Dame but they are out.
Second highest ACC currently Tech, Clemson, and Louisville.
If we beat Tech, they drop below those two.
They wouldn't rematch us with Clemson.
The only way we go Orange is if Louisville jumps Clemson.

Excellent point, I completely forgot about Louisville. I knew the selection committee was keeping them ranked for a reason. It now looks like the Stoop's boys don't have a chance against them, so that could be a potential match-up.

State has to make the playoff but Ole Miss decline takes them out of it most likely. They will put Baylor in playoff if they win division.
Money bet is us to Peach.
A State loss to Ole Miss or State sneaks in playoff only way we get to Orange but the Louisville scenario has to play out.

FWIW, Schlabach and McMurphy from ESPN both have us playing Michigan State in the Peach Bowl. We need Boise State or Colorado State to get the at-large bid, if Marshall gets it they are likely going to the Peach.

Wrong. If Tech wins against FSU then we go to Orange. Winner of ACC Champ gets automatic bid to Orange Bowl. If Winner of ACC goes to playoff, then the next highest ranked acc team goes to Orange Bowl.

i have a shitty feeling we end up playing marshall in the peach bowl

Not wrong. Your IF wasn't part of scenario. I hope a 3 loss Tech team does beat FSU.
Scenario for Orange remains Louisville has to become 2nd highest ranked ACC school.

Ok...makes more sense now. Scenario stands and would require Moss State to lose or in playoffs and Louisville or FSU (Tech loss) to be highest ranked ACC since others would be rematch.
$27 mill on the line for SEC to get in that bowl over Big 10.
However, in the years the Rose and/or Sugar bowls host the national semifinals, the BCS commissioners have agreed that the Big Ten or SEC champion will not be placed in the Orange Bowl. Instead it will be placed in one of the three other access bowls. That decision was made to improve the value of the access bowls, sources told ESPN.
The ACC representative will play the highest available ranked team from Notre Dame, the SEC or the Big Ten. However, if the ACC's highest-ranked opponent would create a regular-season rematch, the Orange Bowl has the flexibility to avoid that rematch by taking the next highest-ranked team from Notre Dame, the SEC or Big Ten. The team that was "skipped" over would be placed in an access bowl as long as it meets the minimum ranking requirement.

Realdawg not talking about your scenario. I'm talking about Dawgs4life's scenario. He said if Tech beats FSU then Fsu might go to orange because they would still be ranked higher. But that is wrong because winner of acc has automatic bid to orange regardless of ranking. Ranking only matters when winner of acc goes to playoff.

Gotcha.
The new system actually makes the bowl match ups a bit more interesting and not so certain.
