That'll undoubtedly change once Grantham is run off and Strong's players are processed.

This guy gets it. If Bobby P could hire a great DC his teams could be scary good. Especially playing in the Almost Competitive Conference.

That's the thing - he won't/can't hire a good DC because his teams are wholly focused on squeezing every ounce of ability out of the offense, and defense is designed to serve as the tackling dummy in practice.

Not that Grantham's a good DC or anything, but Petrino tried to fire him before he'd even coached a game, and their defense has been their saving grace this year.

TG is the ultimate d-bag, but I don't doubt for a moment that he fell out of favor immediately with Petrino because he didn't share Petrino's belief that the sole purpose of his defense was to serve as practice fodder for the offense. There's a reason Ellis Johnson and Lorenzo Ward got hired and then quit weeks later to head to USCe in 2008, and it's likely the same reason it came out that Petrino was going to fire Grantham before the season started.
