No. It is not. Morals have changed.

Changing morals does not equate to a world without a moral compass. Morals change as society evolves. It was once considered moral to own another human being...in my lifetime it was moral to have separate but equal education. It is not a mainstream act for a young man to shoot another young man....even in neighborhoods where it happens frequently it is a shocking incident....that is one of the reasons we hear about...if it bleeds it leads....if we weren't shocked by it, if it weren't for it being so uncommon, we wouldn't hear about it.

Except that for decades we did not have the problems we have today...ok. We had the problems as you pointed out, but not to the degree.

We had other, more pressing problems. It was perfectly acceptable to a large number of European not so long ago to attempt to wipe Jews off the face of the planet (it wasn't just in Germany....Austria, Poland and a pretty sizeable % of France was in complete agreement). Lynchings were pretty common in the United States at one time....yet kids were spanked pretty regularly....and apparently had Daddy at home every night, for what it is worth. Man is a piece of work....there is no bounds to the hijinks we will get up to....on the flip side of that some of the shite we come up with is mind boggling in the benefits provided....

Morality is simply a code that identifies right and wrong action. The code, itself, can be different from person to person as each individual has their own belief in what is right and what is wrong.

What is important (to me) is the basis for a particular moral code. I believe the Biblical morality was influential in the overall restraint seen prior to the 60's, and as Baby Boomers rejected the traditional moral code of their parents and adopted a more hedonistic approach, things got worse, as I see it.

Instead of "love others as you love yourself", the battle cry of people today it is "love yourself". You can see the changes that resulted in embracing selfishness.

There has always been evil in the world, but I believe the acceptance of it (and redefining it as "good") has been on the rise for the past half century.
