I very seriously doubt that that's true. Maybe the most attractive realistic candidate after A&M, but Tech isn't even the most attractive university for the SEC in its own state.

I still think we should try to make the SEC the premier basketball conference as well as premier football conference. Lets get UNC and Kansas and call it a day. We don't need anymore powers in football.

Like Finebaum would know who the SEC's top target was. I would be my life on A&M being ahead of VT on the SEC's wish list. Now if we are talking who was the top choice to come with A&M, then I could see VT being the top choice for that. But there is no way that VT was above A&M on the SEC's wishlist.

ETA: Even if we are talking about choosing A&M's moving partner, I still don't see VT being the #1 choice. I bet UNC was higher on their wishlists. Granted, there was no way UNC was coming then, but neither was VT if you listened to the PTB at VT.

Would have been a better, and more geographically reasonable fit when compared to Missouri.

I would've loved it. One of my best friends swam a VTech and I'd have loved to elevate our smack talk to an in conference level. Only time we've lost to them was freshman year music city bowl lol.

VT would be a power house in the SEC. they'd beable to lock that region up in recruiting and that region produces quite a bit of talent

I wanted VTech, Clemson or Florida St. to come with A&M. He'll even NC State would have allowed us to keep some geographic parity.

Sorry Mizzou. But not really.

Duke, UNC and UVA would never join the SEC. FSU and Clemson are very much SEC schools (and I bet Clemson would give their left nut to join) but their instate rivals will never let them in.
