Saw an article on AUC talking about upgrading the stadium again. Thoughts?

Upgrade as in make the current amenities like the sound system nicer? Yes.
Seating capacity? Hell no. We're gonna look back in ten years and laugh at aTm's and Alabama's empty stadiums.

Not that I necessarily disagree but what makes you say that?

i don`t want to appear a nega-barner because we have a great playing surface which is the only thing you notice on TV, but as i was sitting under the concourse i really was thinking how much it felt like legion field…so yeah.

Sound system is terrible speakers sound blown and we play shitty music compared to other schools.

Tennessee had almost 105k for their game against Utah State. I wouldn't mind upgrading to fit a yea more thousand.

New sound system? We needed that 6 years ago. Honestly, the audio department just needs to be fired. They suck.
Improve the outside? Definitely.
Improve Concessions? of course.
Increasing capacity isn't really needed.

The increasing price of tickets along with the decreasing amount of people that are willing to pay those prices when they can save money and watch the game along with other key games on their 46" HDTV. Give it one or two bad years and that 100k turns into 93k. I think you've even seen it at Jordan-Hare. It took us half the year before the corners of the upper deck started to fill after our 3-9 season.
You can watch any game from the comfort of your own living room now..something you couldn't do 10-15 years ago.

Yep, pretty much all of this.

quote:Youre making the assumption that Auburn's fanbase is as large as Tennessee's. It may be true but Tennessee benefits from location being in a much larger city where it's easier to attend their games for the majority of their fanbase. A little hope for a football team with a relatively new coach can draw a capacity crowd because they've had nothing positive since their decent year in 2007. If they start losing ball games down the stretch you see that attendance number drop significantly. In 2012 they were drawing 84,000 and 82,000 against Troy and Akron at home. Similar games to USU but since they have hope under Butch Jones right now that 102k was easier to fill. Over time it shows it's hard to sustain support like that
Tennessee had almost 105k for their game against Utah State. I wouldn't mind upgrading to fit a yea more thousand.
Eta: even last year Tennessee didn't sell out until their 4th home game against UGA. The next week when they beat SC it wasn't a capacity crowd and they didn't draw another capacity crowd until Auburn came to town because Auburn bought over 20,000 available tickets in the east endzone upper deck
Last edit: last year we didn't even sell out a game at home until UGA. From the beginning of 2012 until the 2013 UGA game Auburn failed to sell out 13 straight home games.

Yeah, we have no business increasing the capacity of the stadium. That money could be spent on a plethora of other things the stadium needs...like the sound system we've been begging for since 2010?...a long arse time

I'd take any stadium improvement over seating capacity. Give me two jumbotrons, Bricking of the north endzone, and a new sound system and call it a day

I don't think it needs to be larger. What we desperately need is:
New sound system. My shite at home is better quality. It sounds like we bought our shite out of a white van on the shoulder of 85.
Renovate restrooms
New scoreboard in north endzone
Major face lift to the outside of the stadium. JHS is a fricking dump on the outside. If erector sets and 1970's communist Russia are your things, photos of the exterior must give you a major boner

Upgrading JH is a must. Expanding JH is a bad idea.

The old girl needs a face lift before we go for the boob job.

Ok. Let me provide some context to this topic. Expanding JH is not an issue. There is a facilities arms race going on in the SEC and AU is falling behind and could affect us in recruiting soon which was the crux of the AUC article and insiders on both AUC and AUR discussing and pushing for the face lift and a new football facility.
AU has pop (wow factor) with recruits in the new dorms, wellness kitchen, atmosphere, AU fans, and indoor practice field. We have no pop with Jordan Hare or the football facilities/coaches offices. The first on campus meet with a recruit is usually in the coach's offices. The offices are considered adequate but nothing pops out like at the other 6 major SEC schools. For example, at Florida they have all their Heisman awards and National Titles on display so that people have to walk by and see them to get to the coach's offices. That stands out to recruits. At our facility you would not know where those awards and titles are unless you went out of your way to find them. Also there is not enough room in the facility to comfortably have an office for everybody on Gus's extended coaching staff. Lastly, there is no pop to the outside of the facility building itself. You would not know coming up to the facility that it's for football as the other big 6 make it plainly known with their facilities.
By all insider accounts I read the past few days on this AU is behind on stadium and facility pop factor to Bama, LSU, TAMU and behind facility pop to UGA, UF and UT and it's not even close.

Football facility first, fix sound system, recruiting lounge. Outside of JH is adequate.
Edit: Oregons cost $68 million. Not sure what Bama spent.

What will the extra money from the SEC network be spent on? New scoreboard/jumbotron and speakers would be a good start

Meh, don't really care. Coaching is by far the biggest factor in everything from recruiting to winning. If it helps the coaching staff be more efficient, then great. If its to make fans feel better about their inferiority complex, then don't care. I would be down for no sound in the stadium, just whistles, cheers, and the bands.

AU could use another 3000 seats or so. Get it up to 90K. we dont need bigger than that. First class amenities would be nice.
