a scoreboard watcher would say "they only won by 3". everyone else would say VT never got the ball with a chance to tie or win the game, and auburn threw just one pass in the entire 4th quarter....whatever the final score said, auburn was warming up the bus long before the gun sounded.

USC beat the same team by 11 in what was essentially an away game in Maryland. Auburn beat them by 3 at what was -- at best -- a neutral site game.

That's the closest comparison we have, and it doesn't look good for AU.

So you wanna ignore that "offensive pi" call against vt and play that card?

again, that's the scoreboard watchers' perspective. like i said, auburn threw one pass in the whole 4th quarter....that would seem to indicate that they were simply content with running out the clock & getting the W, final score be damned. at the end of the day, auburn already knew they were gonna be on the outside looking in, yet they stayed focused enough to pull out the W....not trying to deflect, but a team or fanbase like bama's oughta know something about staying motivated enough to take care of business when the big prize is out of reach...

of course, hindsight's 20/20....if tubbs knew USC was gonna demolish oklahoma & we'd be having these arguments years after the fact, maybe he would've put attempted to put some style points on the board....
