Agree on 2013 being a great year. One to remember. As to why the tone has changed, I'm not sure. Residual bitterness over the defensive collapse vs. Auburn? Something else? Who knows?

A 5-7 shite the bed, yes, pissed. Middle of the pack, no.

Being brutally honestly, once DBG was dismissed my expectations lowered considerably. He was going to be our game changer, Mauk's security blanket, and the one player other teams had to account for and double. Without him roles have changed and time will tell how big the impact is.

Absorbing all the senior and underclassmen leadership losses at all position groups was going to be challenging enough to overcome. Add DGB to the exodus and I see 2014 as a restocking / experience year.

So while I'd love 10-2 again, 8-4 or 7-5 seems much more realistic.

I'm just hoping for a season good enough to not stunt our recruiting momentum.

Yeah, 5-7 would be a bed shitting.

I'm with you on expectations. Loud and clear.

This is a must, need to go at least 7-5 to show recruits that even on a not so great year you're still gonna get more wins than losses and a bowl game for your efforts.

This forum was ready to run Pinkel out of town after the first year of SEC play.

Its healthy. We have come a long way from being "happy" about the Independence Bowl.

Onward and upward both on the field but with our alumni/donor/fan expectations.

I agree Kilo.

Those of us that were here that first year, bore the brunt of tSECR.

It's probably why we're more easy going about things right now.

It's disturbing to think that some people want to lump us in with the likes of Baylor, OKST, etc.

Methinks they never left the Big 12.

They'll figure it out eventually.

Yeah, I wonder how much of my angst with GP after year 1 was due to having to survive tRant. Probably not much I guess. It was epidemic everywhere.

As for this year, I guessed 8-4 to 9-3 going in. Figured with everything we lost and everyone else being healthy we would have a hard time going 11-1 in the regular season tough to do again. I'd call 8-4 a good year, anything less with a bowl game and I'll live, no bowl and I'm sure I'll melt for a day or 2 at least.

In arms.

We seriously need to drink a beer or ten at a game some time.

We have our share of Sunshine pumpers and Nega-Tigers too.

I think the thing people forget is: Our teams are never as good as we (fans) think or never quite as bad as our (respective)teams look. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

I will be ecstatic if we can go 8-4 this year, I truly expect it and I'm fine with it I'm just not fine with getting pushed around by an FCS school.

An LSU fan brings a sense of levelheadedness to the Mizzou board.

Steck is clueless vs the option and that is the problem

Calling a coach "clueless" is being negative. We don't know what the issue is. It's just like saying "Mauk sucks." Last year our lack of speed at LB was exposed in a way that nobody else did, including our bowl game, the entire season.

I recently heard a Mark Richt interview where he said that you cannot prepare for an option team in one or two or even three weeks. He said that knowing they play Georgia Tech at the end of every year means that they prepare for it every single week in practice.

Neither Navy several years ago nor Auburn were on our schedule. One was a bowl game and the other the SECCG. I wonder if the failure is in what Richt said rather than WHAT is being taught is closer to the answer.

Either way, it is a coaching issue, but not just on Steck. I wish a reporter would interview Gary, give him the Richt quote and see how he responds, because there are other option teams out there besides Auburn and we could end up getting them in a bowl game.

If I was an opposing coach and could run a little option, I'd certainly throw it at Mizzou if I played them.

We get optioned all the time. The zone read still eats us up when the QB keeps it. Our best defense against it is tackling before the handoff is completed so it doesn't matter who keeps it.

Nice try but sorry getting out schemed is getting out coached, sure our backers were slow but they also were out of position to stop that offensive attack. I quite frankly do not feel like explaining the x&O's which I did after that game again. I am not a negative poster, fell free to look at my history but I also am not going to pump sunshine out my arse when there is a problem and our D vs the option has been pathetic for years.

I'm not quarreling with the criticism, just the characterization. Getting outcoached in that game I can agree with, but we had one of the best run defenses in the SEC, something like 2nd in the conference after Alabama, until that game skewed our statistics.
