That musta been when they were under Willie Martinez' tutelage. We saw a lotta that in Athens too in '08 & '09...

Nope. Roof started the trend. Martinez kept it going.

Seems like a lot of times the CBs aren't looking for the ball, but instead anticipating when the WR is going to catch it so they can rake it away. Cyrus Jones did this in the end zone yesterday and saved a touchdown. Still makes me uneasy and seems like a lazy technique, whether it's being taught or not. At the end of the day, the corners need to be more aggressive and the ILBs need to cover better when they drop back. They were too soft and the middle of the field was wide open most of the game.

Then you give up a TD on the Stop-n-Go.

What if there's more than 2 wide receivers?

How often will more than 2 WRs go deep on a play outside of situations where going deep is expected and a stop and go route would not fool the CB?

10.2% of the plays.

This was discussed at length when Dre Kirkpatrick had problems in training camp because he said he was never taught to back pedal; Saban's system, which works very well for Bama is a three point shuffle that he learned while coaching for the Browns. Doesn't always translate well to other NFL teams though.

It was for LSU back during the 90's. Auburn, Jamie Howard, 5 second half interceptions. An absolute nightmare of a game.

you're supposed to watch the eyes of the receiver

when he looks for the ball, you turn and look for it

The receivers must not be reacting then.

HAve Bama fans noticed a drop in DB play even last year since Pruitt left?

Noticed a drop in DB play once Sunseri last played.

When DBs are "in phase" with the receiver (meaning they are beside the receiver step-for-step) they are taught to look for the ball when the receiver does. When they are trailing, they're taught to put an arm between the receiver's arm when he goes up for it.
