I notice Alabama dbs are always turned toward the receiver.

Is this the technique they are taught? I like it when the db has his head on a swivel and can bat the ball away or make an interception. If a ball is well place and you have our back too it, you are going to get beaten.

It's called Hookfin's Syndrome and it's deadly for DB's.

Typically DBs are running with the WR.
Would you suggest they backpeddle the whole way?

I was talking with one of your own yesterday about this. Not sure his name but #3 never looked for the ball. Made me think he was taught by Ted Roof.

I think they are taught to watch receivers eyes and turn towards ball when the receiver makes a move to catch ball. Lessens likelihood of PI i think. But you may want to get in touch with Coach Saban and let him know what you are seeing out there. I'm sure he hasn't thought to review game tape.

Neither CB ever looked 'comfortable' with the ball in the air. I thought several times that they just weren't sure which technique they should use.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see you guys win a single game, but this problem was probably fixed somewhere between 8 & 9am this morning

Unless the CB got beat, he should have time to turn and look for the ball.
Our DBs stopped turning during the Chizik era and it was brutal. We never swatted or picked any balls. Ellis Johnson has gotten them to look for the ball and our DB play has improved from it.
But I'm not going to doubt anything Saban does on defense.

Of course not, but a little look every now and then is what I see out of other dbs.

you're supposed to watch the eyes of the receiver
when he looks for the ball, you turn and look for it
when he looks for the ball, you turn and look for it

Then you give up a TD on the Stop-n-Go.

#3 gave the single worst defensive performance I've ever seen by an Alabama player in 25+ years.
He was thrown at about 9 times, the result was 9 completions, 1 for a TD, and on about 6 of them he completely whiffed the tackle in embarrassing fashion after the catch allowing the guy to gain huge additional chunks of yardage.
Alabama was playing D with effectively 10 players.

I really think it is. I remember the same thing happening often while Saban was at LSU. Travis Daniels was the best at face guarding and then separating the hands from the ball all while having no clue where the ball was. Results in alot more broken up passes but fewer INTs.

Sylve was horrible Saturday. Absolutely horrible. He has great speed, runs beautifully, but sadly doesn't appear to have the first clue about being a db technique-wise. Man, he's going to give you guys heartburn this year. I'm almost assuming he loses his job this week.

Is it contagious?

HAve Bama fans noticed a drop in DB play even last year since Pruitt left?
I can tell you as a UGA fan I noticed a Day One uptick in our DB play with him here.
No troll... serious question.
