Ranking the SEC West: The reality behind week 1

Reality is that the teams you saw play week 1 are not even close to the teams you will see play over the next few weeks. People are overreacting way too much to the games that were played this week. This is not a ranking based off of week 1 alone.
1)Auburn - Exactly what I expected from Auburn. As far as I see it you are equally as good as last year, except now you have the best WR in the SEC in Williams.
2)Alabama - Yes they struggled against an average WVU team, but they are Alabama and they will still win all but 1 or 2 games this year.
3)LSU - We struggled alot in the first half, but in the end our talent showed and the rest of the SEC will get to watch the young guys grow in front of them.
4)A&M - Just by the first week alone you moved up 2 spots from where I believed you would be, but lets not confuse talent with a system that thrives on inexperience. Kenny Hill is a more talented passer than JFF, and in the long run I think he will improve your offense. However, the USC team you beat does not have anywhere near the talent and depth on defense as many SEC west teams.
5)MSU - Admittedly I did not watch the MSU game but I am a believer that Dak is a very solid QB, and that Chris Jones is the best DT in the league. Unfortunately for MSU the talent and depth just isn't their yet.
6)Ole Miss - If I had any faith in Bo Wallace to not turn the ball over, then I might have Ole Miss higher. Probably the best set of safeties in the SEC.
7)Arkansas - Yes you lost to Auburn, but I think you had the hardest challenge in all of college football this week. The offense was much more capable than I was expecting to see but I just don't see a team in the west that you would finish higher than.
DISCLAIMER: The SEC west this year might be the best collection of teams I have ever seen in one division together. I think those top 6 would all be in the top 25 for alot of the year if we didn't have to beat up on each other. As an LSU fan, there is not a single SEC west game this year that I can say with confidence that we will win. However, I could also see us beating every single team. The west will be a bloodbath this year, and to the team that wins it: I salute you.

Not particularly, pretty much spot on for the most part. While their win was impressive, the immense overreaction to A&M beating USC has been amusing.

1. Auburn: Defending champ, rightfully so and team to beat in the west
2. Texas A&M: Big time firepower at receiver and good defense.
3. Alabama: Talent is why, QB sucks but their more talented all around especially on defense.
4. Miss. State: Tough SOB'S just want to hit someone. They will be a dark horse this year.
5. Ole Miss: Bo Walace still making mistakes. Defense stout but offense will struggle
6. LSU: QB issues are real and everyone on the Dline is stacked this year in the west.
7. Arkansas: not enough talent to compete in the west.

I think he did a solid job to be honest. He did a good job of analysis.
I agree that there is no game that you can sleep on in the west.
Whoever ends up in Atl will have a loss (or two). I also see them possibly beating UGA which will cause craziness in the pick as them for the playoff spot over a undefeated lower team.

Here is who everyone beat in terms of talent:
Wiscy
South Carolina
Arkansas
West Virginia
Boise
So Miss
So because of the margin of victories being so different when comparing tamu/auburn to lsu, I would give these two teams a slight nod even though they played a worse team. As of now, I would rank it
1. Auburn
2. Tamu
3. LSU
4. Alabama
5. Miss st/ Ole Miss
7. Arkansas

Is that where you think Those teams finish or where they are now? Because those are totally different things.
I'd agree that your list is probably a good measure of week 1 but not overall

I think that's all we can take away from week 1. There are so many variables that you have to taken into account, time will only tell in regards to the pecking order of the west.
I will say this though, the west is head and shoulders above the east this year.

As of now. You can never predict a whole season based off of one week

Nope, but I can try . Thats what I attempted to do in the OP. Basically an updated preseason ranking

I was really impressed with A&M though, I picked USCe to win the east this year then A&M showed up and changed everything. Georgia now looks like the leader in the east and Auburn has the talent to win the west but more importantly the defense to win the west. That is if they don't shite the bed first.

Exactly. I got blasted for saying this though.
I'd agree with your list for now. I think any of the top 4 could potentially win it this year but it's pretty hard to separate them after only one performance
