Commentators should review their prediction that Ole Miss is gonna beat the Aggies at Kyle.

Gamecock posters told me I didn't understand big time football when I posted that their small corners were gonna be exposed.

Both Ole Miss corners are 5' 9" and they are gonna be badly abused at Kyle.

Aggies were able to get pressure on SCar when rushing 3. So overall looks like it's gonna be a fun year for Texas A&M.

Elite is pretty rarified air to me where if you do not win the division and the SEC championship it is a huge, huge disappointment.

Arguing the connotation of adjectives is the so annoying. Elite just means the clearly superior group. Applying some rigid distinction to it based on narrowly applicable definition is so dumb. You're arguing semantics.

I've seen a lot of our posters say we looked the best out of all the west teams this weekend, which I think is true, but only a handful who have taken that to the next level and think that we are actually the favorites to win the west

This.

Thrashing #9 SC on the road, given their streak and atmosphere > Beating Arky at Home

Not even a debate.

thats why I said

to me

I answered the question as I read it. And I consider "the clearly superior group" based on all the groups I have seen (including previous years). Just how i see it as an elite group of football players.

Do you mean Elite in the west? Elite in the entire country?

Um. I don't know. Elite has varying uses and definitions to me depending on subject matter, context, and the education level of the gump I'm dealing with. I can use it as an adjective when describing many things in college football interchangeably.

fawx, you aren't going to get me riled up by calling me a dumb gump so you may want to move on.

O that was more rhetorical as my token punching bag for this place. Just pretend I said swamp kitten or piggy instead of gump. Gump is just quicker to type. I don't think you're a dumb gump, FWIW.

Maybe. But there was not much separation over AU, LSU and Ala. Impressions will not solidify until the end of Sept. Now if you were in the East, you'd only have to worry about Ga.

And how does that have anything to do with what we saw this week? Alabama could go on a run and finish 13-0 with a SEC championship. Or they could drop two. We just don't know. Saying the west has no elite teams in it this year is just as dumb as saying a&m is an elite team after only one week

aggie will be competitive this year they have an offensive guru running the show. What remains to be seen is how the deal with a team that can generate a pass rush and play man/press? Also how do they deal with a team that runs at them all game?

As an Auburn fan I expect to be able to run, but I am concerned about our ability to get a consistent rush with just 4.

i was just giving an example to clarify what elite means to me becasue as fawx said, it can be used in a variety of ways. I don't think any teams in the west are elite right now. I did't watch enough football to comment on others. A team can certainly improve and grow and become an elite team, it would be nice if alabama did it, but we will see.

I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to generate a pass rush against us.

If that proves to be true you will play for a national title. However, it is unlikely that some team won't be able to accomplish this task.

Not to beat a dead horse, but:

Team Att Yds Avg TD Lg
LSU 47 130 2.8 1 28
A&M 39 169 4.3 4 24

When in fact you should be much more concerned with:

Player C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT QBR
A. Jennings 9/21 239 11.4 2 0 31.9
Kenny Hill 44/60 511 8.5 3 0 91.5

Our offensive line looks so good, and we play Auburn/Bama/LSU later in the season, so I think our receivers will get more refined so I'm not worried about it. If fully expect A&M to score 40+ on Auburn and Alabama, and 30+ on LSU.

Far more important question. Arguably our most experienced linebacker just dislocated his ankle. I have no idea how long that injury takes to return from. Mastrogiovanni showed a ton of improvement in the run game, and aside from a really bad whiff, look great on the inside running game. He will have to keep this up against Auburn and Alabama. Our defensive interior is going to need to stay healthy as well. Myles Garrett being the real deal from Day 1, even though I had hesitation, is probably going to be the biggest contribution with his pass rush. Wait. Weren't we just talking about running? Yes. Well on early downs, I expect Myles to place the opposing teams in much more passing situations. I can't remember how many 3rd and shorts we got mauled on last year. Biggest way to prevent that is to not be in 3rd and short at all. Myles Garrett gives us that. SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year is an award right? He has to be the frontrunner.

Until Saban proves he can beat Malzahn, I don't know if you can say that.
