Mallett On The Way Out?

The speculation that quarterback Ryan Mallett (Arkansas) could be the odd man out in New England continues to grow today.
Mallett, who is entering his fourth season as a back-up quarterback in New England, has been losing ground to rookie Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois) as the team's second quarterback. Garoppolo was the second quarterback in the game for the Patriots in their 30-7 win over Carolina on Friday, the second straight game he got the nod over Mallett. Garoppolo finished with 9-of-12 passing for 105 yards and a touchdown, compared to Mallett going 2-of-3 for 14 yards.
Now, NFL.com reports that Mallett will likely not play at all in the team's final preseason game.
"NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that New England is expected to hold Mallett out of Thursday's final preseason game against the New York Giants, per a Patriots source," Marc Sessler of NFL.com writes. "With potential trade opportunities down the road, the risk of injury was deemed too high, the source told Rapoport. That means rookie Jimmy Garoppolo will start and likely go the distance."
Sessler says that there could be plenty of interest for Mallett if he becomes available.
"Losing Sam Bradford to another season-ending ACL tear leaves the Rams as a potential candidate for help under center," Sessler writes. "The Texans also remain in the picture, and hold the advantage of the No. 1 waiver priority if Mallett is ultimately cut.
"The Patriots, though, would love to get something in return for the fourth-year passer who looked entirely average in preseason play but comes equipped with the size and build teams love at the position."
Mallett is 1-of-4 passing for 17 yards and an interception on his career.

Either team would be fine with me

For the past 2 years, mallett has been rumored for every QB opening. It'll happen eventually but I'll bet it's not till after this season.

If this is Malletts fourth year his rookie contract will be up and they will trade him and put another rookie on the roster.

The only reason he wouldn't play this week is b/c they are trying to trade him
