When they left the SEC in 1967 to become the "Notre Dame of the South."

That was a colossal mistake.

Yes and no. I think that Dodd should have tried harder to challenge Bryant on how the SEC would evolve. Unfortunately, most of the SEC schools decided to follow Bryant's example and put academics and ethics second to sports. It's the paradigm that still drives the SEC today.

Look, I hate Tech but what they did recently with giving any high school valedictorian and salutatorian in the state of Georgia a free ride was pretty legit. I'm not going to knock what they do academically because honestly with the way things are going, my son is probably going to wind up there. He is a very gifted computer nerd. You may someday pay to own one of his devices lol.

Athletically, I think Tech is a very hard sell. Honestly, if I had other D1 offers on the table then I would definitely go somewhere else. Heck, I'd go to Starkville or some other God-forsaken place before I'd play at Tech. Also the kids don't want to play in some high school offense. They want to play somewhere with a high powered modern offense. Tech just ain't a sexy place to play ball.

Georgia Tech was fined $100,000 by the NCAA, stripped of its 2009 ACC championship in football and placed on four years of probation on Thursday for failure to cooperate with its investigation into the football and men’s basketball programs.

We should all take the high road and pattern purselves after Tech.

Two words: Jan Kemp

And you damn well that the shite in 2009 that happened to Tech was about as much a snow job as was the AJ Green jersey debacle. Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth - I'm pretty sure I've seen you as well as several others on here bash the NCAA's lack of consistency in regard to how it doles out punishments and conducts investigations. My reference was specifically to institutions like Ole Miss, All-Barn, and Bama. I feel like Richt cleaned things up at UGAg and is a different kind of coach. The SEC is full of bag men and back room deals. Sadly, the ACC has some bad apples too - F$U, da U, and now UNCheat, but it doesn't dismiss the fact that Dodd left because Bryant et al were changing the game in a direction Dodd didn't want Tech athletics to follow.

Tech balances athletics and academics by not requiring Tech student athletes to actually go to class, or take tests, or do projects. Only thing separating Tech from Auburn is Tech doesn't have a single alum who cares enough to pay players. I think Tech has 1 non-vacated victory over UGA in the last 25 years.

It lost its sports identity when Bobby Dodd retired so he didnt have to recruit black players. I am sure he would be proud of the fact that Tech leads nation in the academic gap between their real students and football players. Was it like 4% of the team could have gotten in if they were not faster than Asians?

Ben Jones eating the grass was an absolute epic moment. I will treasure those pics of him after that game until the day I die.

Difference is...we never parade ourselves around as morally and ethically superior.....unlike Tech.
Don't pretend you are, because you are not. I mean....didn't you guys just loosen the reins on Paul Johnson on his recruiting? Now you want to insinuate that Tech left the SEC because you are somehow ethically superior, while the teams that stayed are unethical?

And yet Tech athletics is following now, you mean?

You want to bring up Jan Kemp? Here are two more words for you. Antonio McKay. You know...the track star that could not get ito georgia because of academics and yet somehow got into Tech?

What's cute is how y'all pretend you "don't care about Tech ... they're irrelevant", but yet you continue to post threads like this and get your jimmies rustled EVERY TIME

What does it say about a fan base of a team that beats its rival 70% of the time, but still gets their nuts in a twist about the rival?

FIFY---Been to StingTalk lately? I haven't, but I'll bet UGA is the main topic of conversation.
