Your roommate is full of shite then
I played for Rhett at Samford and he is one of the nicest guys ever to be around outside of football. We all loved him while he was there. Also, one of my best friends is the AD at TFA in Orlando (where Newkirk plays) and just raves about Rhett whenever he stops by. And from the few high school coaches I know, Rhett is very highly thought of around the state.

Nice guys make great husbands. Not sure if it works in the SEC. I know he is a good guy. That isn't the question. Can he put a winning offense on the field when the other teams are scheming against your bread-n-butter? Therein lies the problem.

I think the coaching staff relayed that to him. I don't know. I've never met Rhett Lashlee. I just know that Lance Thompson comes by the school all the time, and they mainly interact with Rhett Lashlee at camps in Auburn when the high school players go.
Met Scott Fountain outside the Auburn Arena after last year's game against Georgia, though. He was really nice and down to Earth.
ETA: I like Rhett Lashlee as Auburn's offensive coordinator because if there's anyone in the world that knows it as good as Gus Malzahn, it's him.
