Looking at all the attention and benefits that A&M has gotten since they moved into the SEC. (Awesome decison for their administration)

Have they already surpassed Texas in the national spotlight?

Do they need to win a few SEC titles before they stake a claim?

Is this shift in the balance of power only because texas is struggling now?

Wondering what the board thinks. This is not a bash A&M thread.

A&M is rising at a time when Texas was down in the dumps. Give a few years when both teams are good, that's when we'll figure out which team runs Texas. Too early to tell right now.

Texas will always run that state. I hate Texas. Can't stand them, but I'm also not stupid.

You're trying to compare a program that just barely hits 700 wins all time against a program that is about to hit 900 all time wins. aTm will never pass Texas in national relevance or spotlight.

It's more than just Texas struggling. But that definitely helped. It really was a perfect storm with the new exciting coach, moving to the best conference, JFF, and stadium renovation. Texas will still get the majority of the t-shirt fans in the state, and the only way that will change is if we win something.

However, I don't believe the huge gap between Texas and A&M that was there during the Fran/Sherman years in regards to recruiting or relevance will ever be that large again.

A&M is running a rogue program while Strong is weeding out the riff raff from the Brown era and installing discipline in his team.

The University of Texas, like Yale and Penn, will always be at the very top when it comes to the national relevance of their football program. Things like that never change.

No, but that doesn't mean much. When someone says "UT" almost everyone in the nation thinks Texas not Tenn even though Tenn has a much better history. National spotlight doesn't mean much if you are losing, in fact it makes it worse.

And they made some bad decisions. Don't worry though, they will be back eventually. It would be stupid to assume otherwise.

A&M vs Texas is cute for the narrative, but if anything the football fates of both programs improved by not having an elimination round at the end of the year.

The real shift has been OU vs A&M. They went from being the FSU of Texas to being the UCF of Texas. We are skull fricking them for recruiting and undoing all that historical advantage they cheated to get.

Texas will always be #1 in the state, two years doesn't suddenly undo 100+ years of history and perception.

As for the Clemson debate, they are still #1 in the state. They've been going to BCS bowls while Carolina has been going to the PapaJohns.com Bowl.

The last two years, A&M had mmore national, state and local spotlight because of Manziel. Moving forward, as long as the SEC matters as much as it matters now... what has more national implications? Iowa State vs tu... or A&M vs Auburn? Kansas vs tu or A&M vs LSU?

Right now yes. Texas is a joke. They completely showed their arse when they thought they could buy Saban. Now they're stuck in a dump of a conference while Sumlin recruits circles around them.

They will take a step back once Sumlin goes to the NFL.

It is inevitable. It is...their destiny.

OP please don't clutter the board with this type of stuff anymore.

Aggies play in the SEC and competes in recruiting for guys that have the balls to play SEC football.

Texas plays the Iowa States of the world and competes for the recruits that are satisfied with flag football.

It's as easy as would you rather go to Texas or A&M for college.

Texas 100 times out of 100. If you say otherwise you're a liar

No Manziel and no Mack Brown, fortunes could swing quickly back to Texas' favor.

Eh, its a tough question. Right now aTm is leading the charge but Texas is, and has been, a life long brand in that state. Folks who have spent some time in Texas understand this. Its not a knock on aTm but its the reality.

Now, Texas needs to get out of the Big 12 with a quickness otherwise aTm will surpass them for good.

Make no mistake, the move to the SEC was an "all in" play by aTm and the longer Texas/Austin sits in the pathetic Big 12 the more the signs point to
aTm making the permanent move to the head of the table in Texas hierarchy

Stillwater,Aimes,Lawrence,Manhatten, Morgantown,Norman.... If I were a Texas recruit, Im sure, all things being equal, that I would chose that over the SEC West/cross divisional schedule.

The signs on the wall folks. SEC Network money. Conference prestige..we are all lucky to be here. Especially the "Low earners", you know who you are.

Think about that, "The Big 12" what a shite conference.
