Depends:

Did you pay face value to the university or buy them from a fellow fan at a discount?

AND

Was one of the games the bowl game?

Because if that counts that mean she counts:

And when I think of the line of "legitimate claim" she is below it.

To be a true fan in professional sports, you have to either live in the city or have previously lived in the city for at least 6 consecutive years.

The worst sidewalkers have no appreciation at all for the University itself. Usually if they lose to the football team, they say things like "I wish that whole school would burn to the ground." They are oblivious to the fact that there are kids who are working their butts off for an education there year round. But this does not apply to all sidewalkers.

That's pretty accurate. Those that didn't attend that one of a kind university have no grasp on reality

No, because even alumni can be bandwagoners. A lot of alumni don't care about sports unless their alma mater starts contending for National Championships. Then all of a sudden, you'd think they were raised with their teams colors in their blood.

A sidewalker is a bandwagoner who is not an alumni.
A bandwagoner can be either.

What about someone who is neither bandwagoner nor alumni?

What about people who try and claim they went to a school, but are clearly sidewalkers?

Only makes sense, because you can't be a true fan of the Saints unless you actually live in New Orleans...or the falcons unless you actually live in Atlanta, right?

If they actually did go to the school, then they're just bandwagoners. If they didn't really go to the school, then they're lying sidewalkers.

Really people, this is not that complicated.

Also, the actual alum of said team's University actually PAID tuition to go to said University. $35,000-$50,000 for a degree isn't exactly cheap to many of those people. Just buying a shirt and a few stickers is a little different. Nothing wrong with being a fan though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a fan of a school you did not attend especially if you live in the same state as that school since your tax dollars support it as well (not you Vandy). I hate the derogatory attitude towards non-alums. Many people cannot afford nor have the circumstances to go to a SEC school yet grew up loving that team. My brother in law grew up in Louisiana and LOVES LSU because his Dad was a big LSU fan. He joined the Army instead of going to LSU. Is he supposed to just turn that off and not root for any college football teams?

Sidewalker: Any fan of any team who finds it necessary to belittle other fans of other teams when that fan never attended the school he cheers for.

Paying tuition to attend a University and simlpy living in a city is a little different... Using your logic it would be comparable to: Georgia is in Athens and I live in Athens, so I can be a true DAWWWWWWGG?

So those in Baton Rougue cannot be true Saints' fans?

Although there are many derogatory aspects of "sidewalkers" that have been outlined in this thread, I dare say most SEC schools benefit tremendously from sidewalker support. It's largely the reason most schools are able to fill 90-100k stadiums.

I wish UNC had more sidewalker football fans. Other ACC teams not Clemson, VPI or FSU would as well. It's hard to fill a large stadium with only alumni support. Here in Atlanta, Ga Tech actively recruits sidewalker fans by advertising to fans of other schools and offering ticket discounts.

My point: There are many positive financial aspects of having sidewalkers so don't hate.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this. This couldn't be further from the truth actually.

Sidewalk fans are not really a problem, except for Alabama.

Let's face it, Alabama attracts the crappiest sidewalk fans in the world.

Alabama is a good school and produces some great alumni, but the sidewalk fans are a different breed.

The worst alumni are from Texas A&M, they are a freaking cult.
