his first 5 years would have bought him a lot of time barring a massive crash at any school other than Florida, Alabama and perhaps LSU.

Meyer or Saban were coaches that I would consider clearly superior to Richt - one is going to go down as the GOAT and the other has arguably the most questionable ethics in the sport.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meyer is not superior to Richt. Richt has withstood the test of time. Meyer couldnt do this. U couldnt get him back in the SEC with a crowbar and 10 million a year. He is not a SEC coach.
If u cant coach in the SEC, youd rather QUIT and LIE by inventing a disease and walk away totally from coaching in order to not do this, how can u be considered a top coach?
Take away Tebow and where would Urban be? Still sick with that rare disease,( how bad was that ) or back at Utah?

You guys manage to be pretty darn good, most years. You've had a blip here and there, but all in all good solid teams.

He may not have had the stamina or gumption that RIcht has, but he certainly knew how to recruit top talent and beat his opponent. Nww, how much of that success was due to his apparently non-existent discipline policies, I'm not sure.

Thank you... It's not message board mealy mouths that run their know-nothing motors like 99% of the people on here who matter. It's the 1% of big money boosters that matter at every school...

Richt is...

126-45 in 13 seasons... basically averaging 10 wins a season for a decade & a half...

One losing season in a transition year in 13 years...

#1 in Top 10 Finishes (SEC teams) (LSU & UGA 8); 4th Nationally.
#1 in Ranked Finishes (SEC teams) (LSU & UGA 11)
#4 in BCS Bowls (SEC teams) (FL 1st)
#1 in SEC Division Titles (Ties w/ LSU at 5)
#2 in SEC Championships (LSU 1st – UGA, FL, AL, AU tied at 2)
#2 in Overall Record (SEC teams – LSU 1st)
#2 in SEC Record (LSU 1st)
#2 vs. Ranked teams at game time (LSU 1st)
#5 vs. Top 10 Ranked teams (FL 1st; AU, LSU, AL)
#4 vs. Ranked teams end of year (LSU 1st; AU, FL)
#5 vs. Top 10 teams end of year (FL 1st; AU, LSU, AL)
#1 in Football Revenue (forbes; USA today; Business Week)
#1 or #2 in NFL players on active rosters (depending on the week)

Yup... Fire him cause he hasn't won a Mythical Natty yet... ...

Any school who fired a guy with these credentials would never find a better replacement...

And here's how UGA ranks in resources vs. the rest of the SEC... (shite outta Richt's control)...

How UGA stacks up vs. SEC teams in RESOURCES:

#6 Head Coach Salary (multiple sources/coacheshotseat.com)
#6 Coaching Staff salaries (USA today salary database;3 other sources – maybe
#7 Amount spent on Football (or maybe #8 behind A&M; AL, AU, LSU, FL, SCe, ARK)
#6 Facilities
(#4 Stadiums; #6 Weight room; #7 Locker Rooms; #7 Players Lounge; #8 Indoor Facility; #7 Hydrotherapy/Training; #5 Offices. Source; saturdaydownsouth series)
#6 Size of Football Staff (maybe #7 – Arkansas could be ahead of UGA)
#7 Size of Recruiting Department (team websites; ESPN reports)
3.75 = avg quality of recruiting classes (3.75 SEC teams had better avg. ‘star’ rating) that year
#12 avg. number of Players signed (only FL and Vandy below us of the 14)
(AL signed 29 more than UGA just under Saban in 6 classes; AU 41 more overall; SCe 34 MORE overall, 20 MORE under Spurrier)

I agree he wouldn't still have his job at Auburn. But it isn't because of the suggestion made by the OP. Auburn has its share of upper level dysfunction and if Richt were at Auburn some of his down seasons would have been worse. Tubs wasn't fired he walked away per his contract because we talked to another coach behind his back a second time. For better or worse Auburn is a hard place to stay and be above average. The thinking is in grained in our state and as such is also a part of our program.
He "walked away" from his contract with +$5mm. Nice job Tommy.

Out of curiosity...no trolling here....if Malzahn does not win a National Title by 2016 will you want him to be fired? You came close this past season. Richt came close in 2012. Two years removed from Richt's near miss you think we should fire him. So, if Malzahn does not win one by 2016 will you be ready to fire him? Don't bring up Chizik, because we aren't talking about Chizik.

I think this year is our year to win an NC. I think 2015 will be a rebuilding year and from there we should be a stable contender after 3 years under Malzahn's tenure.

I think the play-offs will lead to success being measured by the standards of college basketball. Meaning the Final Four appearances will do a lot to save a coaches job even if they don't win the whole thing. Cal has only won 1 NC at Kentucky but all of his Tourney appearances got his contract extend beyond 2020

Not currently but after Martinez left #firemikebobo was born and thrived until it gave way to #blamgrantham. It seems easier for fans to point the finger at coordinators than at Richt

Bama fans are a very kind and understanding bunch. We would certainly understand Coach Richt's limitations as a championship coach and would accept him for what he is. We would thank him for his efforts and offer him a TCBY yogurt cone and a contract extension after each underachieving season.

Offense has never really been an issue under Richt. The defense is the problem. Not since Van Gorder have we had a truly elite defense. Hopefully Pruitt is that guy

Richt would not have survived under the Lowder regime. Even if he wasn't fired, he likely would have left for another job

You play a much tougher schedule this year...lose your by-far best player and your best offensive lineman. You had 7 games decided by 8 points or less... You are looking at a 8-4 year...

Are you going to fire Gus when that happens?
