You guys take pride in "almost" i.e We almost won the SEC, We almost played in the NC?

Who said we take pride in those things? It's just a defense given int he face of asinine thinking like yours that he is incapable of getting anywhere near a big stage. Hell, it took Tom Osborne over 15 years to get Nebraska anywhere. Same with Dooley. Richt has outpaced both and managed to remain the longest tenured coach at a major SEC program. If you want to hold that against him then I think that says more about you than it does the rest of us.

His biggest knock is that he's in a conference with the likes of Saban, Spurrier, and - at one time - Meyer.

That multiple coaches at multiple schools have come into the league since him and won NC's, with two of those schools being rivals

When, specifically, would Auburn have fired him?

Somewhere in the midst of Saban winning his 3rd NC. Richt has no in state competition. I couldn't see Auburn fans being content to play second fiddle even if it's with double digit win seasons

It would be hard for any team in the sec to fire the guy with the moderate to really good success he has had.

You're incorrect to think that fans have that much control. Richt is wildly popular with people who matter.

If Tubs didnt fail miserably in 2008, he might still be our coach

I get his point but don't you think that's part of the problem? There does not appear to be any real pressure on Richt to push for more.

It seems like there's a small segment of UGA fans that realize he's unlikely to ever win an NC and wish him gone while the rest are okay with maintaining a consistent, if not exciting football program

They're idiots, then.

You're incredibly stupid if you think it's unlikely Richt will win a national title

Are you nuts? He has arguably more competition than any other program in the South. Just because Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, FLorida, and FSU don't all carry Georgia addresses doesn't mean UGA doesn't have to constantly compete against them both in recruiting and as an athletic department in general. You're fooling yourself if you think an imaginary border matters frickall in this rat race of college athletics.

I wouldn't go that far. I think Tubs was burnt out by the end of his tenure and don't think he had it in him to hold off Saban. I think he could have bounced back but what would have happened to our football program during that period and would we have ever recovered?

That being said, I would have welcomed Tubs back with open arms after 2012 Chizik and I think he would have come back and given Saban a run for his money. If you see him now he has his shite eating grin back and I think he's ready to kick butt

Yes but they still needed a reason to "fire" him, and he gave them one. Still something Richt has not given them and if he did, he would be gone.

And look at the circumstances under which most of those NCs were won. Based on production, I'd say that only Meyer or Saban were coaches that I would consider clearly superior to Richt - one is going to go down as the GOAT and the other has arguably the most questionable ethics in the sport.

Valid point but I still maintain you have a different outlook of Richt if Georgia Tech was winning ACC Titles and making more noise nationally. As it stands right now, you own them and therefore own the state. For recruits it's either play for UGA or leave the state altogether. There's not much in between.
