Spurrier's analysis there is spot on.

This is ridiculous. I saw the interview and it wasn't a shot at Saban. Espn and fans try to make a story out of this when there is none. A reporter asked a question to try to provoke Spurrier. He's not just arbitrarily picking on Saban.

An SEC that was down quite significantly.
So...what you are saying is: the OBC took a terrifically horrendous program and turned it into a power against a stronger SEC.
Sounds pretty damn good to me.

His remark about the proposed Alamo Trophy for TAMU vs. USC was awesome (seriously wtf????!). You can take the boy outta East, Tennessee but you can't take East, Tennessee outta the boy.

Found the quote and rivalries, jokes, and game day hate aside, Steve is one great Tennessean who is true to his roots. Can't help but love him for that. I'm the same damn way. What a shame an East, TN Vol fan had to go elsewhere due to scheme.
quote:
I heard about that. Read about it. Didn't know it's official yet. I'm actually from Tennessee, and I always was taught the hero of the Alamo was Davy Crockett. Bonham, it's a good story, and he did some good things. I always thought Crockett and those 33 Tennessee guys was the hero. Him and those Tennessee guys that came in and got killed and so forth.
If they wanna do a trophy for it, that's fine. We've got a little trophy with Missouri, cause they're Columbia and we're Columbia. We've been fortunate enough to keep that one at home. I don't know that you can have a trophy for every game. Up in the Big Ten, they got a bunch of 'em. Don't know how many games you can have a trophy for, as you go through the season.

But at Alabama they just keep signing them year after year after year. It's amazing. I give him credit for it. They do it the right way. He runs a good program. It's just amazing to me how they've been able to stack and keep loading up players every year. That's what I was just trying to mention. They're going to be the favorites.

This should be what you quoted... the new stuff.
"I think [Saban and Alabama have] done extremely well. There's no question about that. I just made a statement that I think they've had five number one recruiting classes out of the last six years, which has got to make him the greatest recruiter in the history of college football.
Arguably, they've got the greatest collection of football players ever assembled for a college team. If the recruiting services are correct, and they're pretty much correct.
So they're the favorites. They're the favorites. There's no question about that. As long as they can recruit like that, they're always going to be the favorites.
I guess fortunately sometimes the team that plays the best is the team that wins instead of maybe who all has the best players.
I just mention that because it is amazing. When I was at Florida, we had two number one classes, 1991, Danny Wuerffel, all those guys, we had a bunch of players come in. The next year the guys said, Coach, you got too many players on Florida, I'm not going to get on the field.
But at Alabama they just keep signing them year after year after year. It's amazing. I give him credit for it. They do it the right way. He runs a good program. It's just amazing to me how they've been able to stack and keep loading up players every year.
That's what I was just trying to mention. They're going to be the favorites. They got to be the favorites.
Now LSU is pretty good, too. Everybody else recruits very well also. But to be number one that much, that's just sort of amazing to me."

Yes. Just not an elite team, yet.

Look, I love Spurrier if for nothing else for the misery he has dealt Tennessee over the years at both UF and USC.
I just don't see how you will ever get Alabama people to really dislike him no matter what he says.
Why? Because he says smart arse shite about everyone.
Also, you could have at least posted his recent quotes.
