I thought football was about the game...guess not.

It's a fricking stadium that is being phased out...UGA fans will have as many seats available as DWRRS...they will get over it.

And will probably have a better view of the game as well.

In college its also about the "pageantry" during the day leading up to kick-off, you do not get this same experience with neutral site games out side of the Red River Shootout and World's Largest Cocktail Party.

Beer? Check
Wild Turkey? Check
Vaporizer? Check
Tailgate? Check
BBQ Salmon? Check
1080 p 16X9? Check
Hog Walk to stadium? Check
Pregame? Check
Useless and countless moral victory announcements? Check
Flask for 4th qtr meltdown? Check

I would think this would be the case regardless of venue

The stadium in LR is old, but is serviceable. Not a bad seat in the house. You are much closer to the field, the atmosphere (for a meaningful game, like GA will be) is much more intimidating to the visiting team (according to many accounts by visting coaches and players that have had to play against Arkansas there.) Mike Leach is quoted as saying it is the loudest stadium he ever had to coach in. He was an assistant at Kentucky during the Hal Mumme days.

DWRRS in Fayetteville is nice and shiny. Has a bigger Jumbotron to watch all those damn commercials on. Has indoor and club seating and suites for the wine and cheese crowd. Still trying to develop a soul though. Close in the endzone and maybe it will be louder.

Holy shite..........

You work for the Chamber of Commerce in Little Rock, don't you???

Was an honest question. Had no idea that this was a "controversial" topic. Or that the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce had its boot on the throat of Arkansas fans...........

This is true. "At its best" WMS destroys Razorback Stadium as far as crowd noise and excitement. I can only recall one game when this was not the case (Bama in 2010).

quote:

UGA fans will feel ripped off and for good reason.

This is a yes and a no. WMS is nowhere near the quality as RS but there isn't a bad seat at WMS.

quote:

The stadium sits across the street from fraternity houses that have boarded several generations of Arkansas leaders.

How is this relevant to the game? It has been proven that every year less students are going to games.

It just shows me how out of touch with the "college" in "college sports" you all are

This can go both ways. Some fans in NWA like to live in their NWA bubble. In the past the love for the Hogs was state wide and every kid from the state wanted to grow up and be a Hog. Lately SOME NWA fans come off as being arrogant and only concerned with NWA then wonder why out best players from other areas of the state don't want to play on the hill IMHO.

This is fascinating to me........

IN Georgia, we have a similiar rift. Basically, it's the traditionless carpet-bagger transplant mannequins of Atlanta/Smogville vs. the genuine native Sons and Daughters of the rest of the great state of Georgia. To be fair though, these ATL slobs aren't quite arrogant enough yet to propose that several regular season UGA games be played in smogville........which would be sacrilegious. And an act of war.

ANyway. I'd like to learn more about this rift in ARkansas. Who here is on which side?

So far, I sympathize with the NWA contingency. They seem more like SEC folk. WHile the LIttle Rock chamber of commerce faction seems to have used car salesmen instincts............

What's the deal here?

Just stop. We've discussed this ad nauseum. We're not going to rehash it just for your enjoyment.

Fair enough. NOt trying to "troll" or whatever the secrant parrots call it. It's just that I'm new to the Arkansas board and am sincerely trying to get a feel for the lay of the land here.

And knowing which posters are militant commies and which are traditional values good honest folks, would be of great help.

If this subject is taboo, could you maybe provide links to where it has been rehashed before then? And I'll do my research from there.

Just an honest poster here looking to learn something new. Thanks in advance for your time.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. You have no idea how bad it really is and was in the years after the SEC move and the money was raised to expand Razorback Stadium and shift games to campus.

It's literally been 20 years and it's still a major debate and one of the causes of fracturing among our fanbase.

We're not going to be getting back to the levels of success we once enjoyed unless the fanbase can become one again. I'm afraid it'll never happen though. There's too much power positioning and wetting of the beaks and skimming from the state coffers to make fans across the state agree to a feasible plan.

Nope. Don't even live there. If they will pay enough, we'll talk though...

No controversy. UA has made their decision and counted the cost. Time marches on.

Surprisingly, that species in Arkansas is heavily concentrated in NWA.

We got into some of this last year when the Arkansas-Georgia game was discussed. LINK

A divisive issue more for some than others. I've been going to the games in both venues for 40 plus years now and I find a way to enjoy the game wherever it is played.

IIRC part of the new 5 year deal that we signed with Little Rock, in exchange from going from two games a year there down to one now, is that two of the five games have to be quality SEC opponents.

Yeah but the the word "quality" is such a subjective word, and I have a hard time believing they'd put that type of verbiage in a contract. If it's legit, I'd just pass off the likes of the Mississippi schools as "quality" opponents.

No offense, but this "WMS is an intimidating place to play" claim is a myth. The bleacher levels are so low that you can freaking see trees right behind the SEZ while standing on the field.

Go start this thread on Hogville if you want some entertainment.

By the way, LR vs. NWA goes a lot deeper than the Great Stadium Debate. The disagreements date back to Civil War times.

Feral, I respectfully disagree.

There have been TOO MANY quotes by opposing players and coaches that I have heard over the years.
(Yeah, I know, you want a link... unfortunately, most were heard on radio talk shows etc. but I am not bullshitting you.)

But, believe what you wish. Doesn't matter anyway.

What we need to happen is for the NWA crowd to somehow make DWRRS intimidating. Or at least loud.

No offense, but I've heard that alleged quote cited to every football coach ever in history not named John Heisman. You need only look to Hogville and/or talk radio and you'll hear someone inevitably say "Vince Lombardi once said War Memorial Stadium is the most intimidating football stadium...."

In the last few years alone, we've beaten a couple of cupcakes and the worst LSU team of the last decade (2008), lost to ULM, to lost to Ole Miss, lost to Mississippi State for the first time ever on Arkansas soil, and nearly lost to Samford. Can we please trash this notion that somehow WMS is this intimidating place that strikes fear into the hearts of opponents? The only quality wins we've had in that place in 15 years are South Carolina in 2001, the Miracle on Markham I in 2002, and LSU in 2010.

The major thing WMS has over RRS is the tailgating. If you like to tailgate it is one of the better set-ups in the SEC.
I'm older now and I like my spot in Fayetteville but if you like to party with 10's of thousands on a golf course it is an awesome atmosphere. You will have some rowdies but 95% are ready to cook drink and talk football. Its an all day event for sure.
