Herrera might not be nfl star, but on the college level he has been johnny on the spot, right place right time, a team leader, and even if alot of it is luck, ill take it. I love lucky players.

I would hope that he would have discovered that after the last game against USCe where we ate up 8 minutes on the last drive

He's shown flashes of doing this in various games....I'd love to see some of those Dooley-esqe 45 handoff games with our stable of RB's and a new QB.

We'll see.....

Nealy has prolly 4 INT returns for TD

Are you saying that he will do this in 2014?

Because your 'prolly' is one INT return for TD to date in his 3 year career (not bad... but not 4).

FWIW, Herrera has more tackles for a loss than Neely and an equal amount of INTs returned for a TD (and obviously... waaay more tackles despite being a starter for only a season and a half).

South Carolina is favored in all games except Clemson (47.5)

really!?!?!

Otherwise an O/U of about 9 games is fair. We lost some big pieces on defense, but the offense is going to be really good.

I think David Ching was their UGA beat writer when he hired on with ESPN (i don't think he's a grad or anything... but I doubt he's there just trying to ruffle feathers like Aschoff does (Aschoff sounds like a middle schooler trying to start arguments for the sake of boredom. There isn't much research, journalism, or comprehensive analysis from that Gator dweeb).

meansonny,

Does Amarlo Herrara play stiff? Will it be listed on his scouting report? Do scouts think of him as more of a product and less of a producer?

Real talk.

For the NFL? Yeah he's stiff.
But so are 95% of the other inside linebackers playing D1 football. If they weren't stiff, they'd be OLB or safeties.

Herrera is better in the SEC than many give him credit for. He's a burn me once, kind of player. He learns from game experience. And a play that gets him in the first quarter gets blown up in the third or fourth.

That won't carry forward to the NFL.
He'll be your typical 2 down linebacker. 3rd, 4th, or 5th round is a good guess for a player like him. He'll make his living by being better than any other average linebacker in the league (i.e. he would backup a true 3 down backer, but there aren't a ton of those guys floating around so he could get starts like Akeem Dent depending on who is on the roster).

I don't remember Neely from the UGA games the past 3 seasons.

What makes him special to you?
In 3 games, he has 0 INTs, 0 sacks, 0 tackles for a loss, and 0 forced fumbles.

In 3 games, he has 15 tackles (about half of them were assisted). Was there a play that I might remember him from?

Amarlo Herrara

My memory may be tainted, but in the SECCG against Bama..he was one of the few guys that was on the runner at the LOS and made the play. That MF was a shining star in an otherwise sad performance in stopping the run.

I'd take Amarlo over Jarvis on run D all day long.

Glad to see some share my thoughts regarding SC. I think they are primed for a decline. They just reeled off 3 seasons in a row with their best W/L ratio in school history. In that same time period they had one of the highest (if not THE highest regarded recruit) playing for them in school history. Their recruiting has been good (15+ range) but not enough to stay fluid. If it wasn't for their schedule, I'd put them in 4th for the SECE.

They will have a great running game IMO because Davis is a fantastic RB.

It will be a tough game... likely one of the old slobber knocker low scoring games like we saw in the early 2000's

I think your memory may be tainted somewhat because I specifically remember yelling at Grantham for having our best run stuffer (Herrara) on the bench while the other linebackers continually tried to run around blockers to get to the ball carrier, rather than filling the holes.

The recent loss of Shaw and Clowney...no more Lattimore...

Dylan Thompson has plenty of real game time and played well behind Shaw. Mike Davis is a fantastic back - I think he's better than Lattimore was. Their offense may not be what it was last year without Shaw and Ace Sanders but it'll be plenty good.

I think you're right about their defense taking a step back though.

frick out of here with this Tech talent shite talk. Only had one real linebacker of note. Now Gailey was bringing in some real talent in on defense.

That's what I meant. When he was in, we did well stopping the run....when he was on the bench we got bullrushed.

Yeah but he won't take off and burn you for 20 with his legs like Shaw could. I'm not sure USCe fans appreciate just how productive that guy was.

He'd really really good but Lattimore had a knack for abusing us. He could get 6 yds on our D just by falling over.

Can't deny that...

Davis abused us last year too though. If there's a game USC offense is gonna go HAM in it's our game.

In case yall didn't see, 3 of our 4 starting linebackers are on the Bronco Nagurski Award watch list.

Ho hum. Sure is a shame half of them would ride the bench at tech.
