“When I read some of the things said, it just made me sick to my stomach,” Bailey said. “That young man (Matthews) needs to realize who opened doors for him first. I’m speaking as a member of the Georgia Bulldog family, of the Bulldog Nation, because my son goes to school down there, too. I love Tray. I love his mom and dad, too. We’re good friends. But the comments I read made me feel like they were putting down the University of Georgia, the system and the coaches. Not one time did I see it mentioned what Coach Richt or the other coaches have done for him. That’s what made me mad.

“Coach Richt and the coaching staff opened their arms to this kid. They welcomed him into the Bulldog Nation and they stood behind him. For him to come out like that and make it seem like the University of Georgia had done him wrong, that’s what makes me so mad. Same with Shaq Wiggins and the other kids who had the opportunity to play at the University of Georgia. They leave and transfer and get dismissed from the team and they blame it on the school system. It’s not the system; it’s the kids. If you come and do what you’re supposed to do and do it right, you wouldn’t get in trouble and things like this wouldn’t come about.”

quote:

“Not one time have I heard any of these kids say how they appreciate the University of Georgia and their coaches,” Mr. Bailey said. “When they leave the University of Georgia, they go to their arch rival or somewhere else and tear down the university system, like Georgia did something bad to them. It wasn’t like Georgia did something bad to them, it was what they did back to the University of Georgia. And that’s what hurts me so bad.”

Goes on to say that his son, Sterling Bailey, also got into trouble his freshman year due to having a high BAC during a morning drug test:

quote:

“I said, ‘we didn’t send you down there to be a follower; we sent you down there to be a leader,” Mr. Bailey recounted. “I told him we sent him down there to get an education and to do what’s right. I told him he wasn’t only letting down me, he was letting down people up here in Gainesville, Flowery Branch, Oakwood, everywhere. What we do and what we believe in is important!”

He's correct in his assessment. These kids have every chance to follow the rules, and elect to be human trash instead. This isn't the university's fault.

Can anyone link to where Mathews and his parents talked badly about Uga?

Matthews leaves, talks down on UGA, and then transfer to another big SEC school. Something tells me there were no lessons learned from this and this will not be the last time his name is associated with trouble.

UGA did not open up anything for him. He could have went to any sec school he wanted right out of high school.

Wait, so it's the few miscreants who are the problem and not Richt's system/the 80-something others doing things the right way?

No way, too logical IMO, those kids were wronged and set up to fail.

If it's not the system why does it keep happening? There is no control in Athens - I imagine that the recruiters there are kinda like Troopa and promising the highschool kids the world with no work or discipline required. I miss his jimmie rustling but I'm glad he's out - we'd still be like UGA with no control.

Mr. Bailey would be a great addition to Richt's staff.

Thanks for posting that ... I like that woman and thank her for standing up and telling it like it is.

Of course, we never have that happen at SCAR, knock on wood ... but I think she is right about speaking out against it at UGA. Richt needs to quit signing these prima donnas with entitlement mentalities.

Tough world out there. Got to look out for yourself, because no one else is going to.

Once UGA decided tray was better off leaving, it became time for tray to decide where and how he could best help himself.

Just the way life works.

People (outside of close family and REALLY good friends) are always going to be interested in what you can do for them above all else. That lady and Uga fans were interested in what tray could do for them. Now that he is gone, they aren't and Aubies are.
